Performance and interactions of diclofenac adsorption using Alginate/ Carbon-based Films: Experimental investigation and statistical physics modelling

Muhamad Sharafee Shamsudin et al.

Summary: The novel alginate/carbon films (AC-films) showed promising potential as an adsorbent for the removal of diclofenac (DCF) in water treatment. The adsorption performance was influenced by temperature and solution pH, with maximum adsorption achieved at pH 3 and 303 K. Statistical physics calculations helped analyze the adsorption mechanism and the thermodynamic calculations confirmed an exothermic and spontaneous adsorption process for DCF on AC-films.

Kinetic and isotherm insights of Diclofenac removal by sludge derived hydrochar

Sadish Oumabady et al.

Summary: Recently, hydrothermal carbonization has been identified as the most viable solution for managing solid waste with high moisture content. In this study, hydrochar derived from paper board mill sludge was activated using KOH and its potential to remove Diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, from aqueous solution was evaluated. The activated hydrochars demonstrated porous, spherical micro-structures with a higher fraction of oxygenated functional groups, enabling efficient adsorption of Diclofenac. The adsorption kinetics followed a second-order reaction and the Langmuir isotherm model. The post-activated hydrochar exhibited the highest adsorption capacity of 37.23 mg g(-1) for an initial Diclofenac concentration of 40 mg L-1 at an equilibrium time of 15 hours.

Periodate activated by manganese oxide/biochar composites for antibiotic degradation in aqueous system: Combined effects of active manganese species and biochar

Guoge Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, the degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC) using periodate (PI) activated by manganese oxide/biochar composites (MnxOy@BC) was investigated. The experimental results showed high degradation rate and removal efficiency, and various reactive species were observed. Three degradation pathways were proposed based on the experimental findings.

Global evolution of research on green energy and environmental technologies:A bibliometric study

Hao Tan et al.

Summary: The study shows that publications on green energy and environmental technologies have grown exponentially, with China, the USA, and Italy being the most active countries, but global cooperation is not closely knit at present. The research frontier identification results indicate that categories such as energy, wastewater, and performance are stable, while catalyst and CO2 emission categories show a clear shift, suggesting that catalytic production of clean energy, strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and related studies are the research frontiers to address global energy crisis and environmental problems.

Substituent Effects on the Vibrational Properties of the CN Stretch Mode of Aromatic Nitriles: IR Probes Useful for Time-resolved IR Spectroscopy

Suin Choi et al.

Summary: By investigating the effect of substituents on the vibrational properties of benzonitrile, it was found that the electron-donating and withdrawing character of p-substituents can modulate the performance of the CN probe. The utilization of substituent effects will be a practical strategy to improve the performance of the IR probe in time-resolved IR spectroscopies and imaging techniques.

Preparation of hybrids of wood sawdust with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane. Application as an adsorbent to remove Reactive Blue 4 dye from wastewater effluents

Roberta A. Teixeira et al.

Summary: Hybrids of biomass-based materials were prepared by reacting 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane with Ayous wood sawdust to enhance sorption capacity for the removal of reactive blue 4 dye from water. The adsorption process was found to be endothermic and spontaneous, with a significant increase in dye removal efficiency compared to unmodified biomass-based materials.

Lennon A. Araujo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption capacity of a low-cost adsorbent derived from Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. fruit for the removal of DCF from water. The results showed that the adsorbent had a good capacity for DCF removal and is a promising, inexpensive, eco-friendly, and readily available adsorbent, particularly in Latin America.

Removal of diclofenac from wastewater: A comprehensive review of detection, characteristics and tertiary treatment techniques

Ingridy Alessandretti et al.

Summary: The increase in diclofenac consumption and its incorrect disposal have led to the detection of this contaminant in water resources. Various methods such as adsorption, membrane separation, and advanced oxidation processes are effective in removing diclofenac but face limitations. Integration of technologies can overcome these limitations and positively impact the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
