Unveiling the active sites of ultrathin Co-Fe layered double hydroxides for the oxygen evolution reaction

Xue Bai et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile method for synthesizing ultrathin CoFe-based LDHs and reveals their high performance in OER. The Co site is identified as the main active center, and the doping of Fe accelerates the charge-transfer process. Surface Co sites are found to be the active centers for OER, while excessive subsurface Fe doping weakens OH* adsorption and increases the energy barrier of the rate-determining step.

Mesoporous Mn-Fe oxyhydroxides for oxygen evolution

Jingyi Han et al.

Summary: The development of high-performance and Earth-abundant catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction is crucial. In this study, bimetallic Mn-Fe oxyhydroxides with large specific surface area and porous structure were synthesized using a template method. The results showed that the mesoporous Mn1Fe1Ox exhibited excellent OER performance and outperformed most Mn-based electrocatalysts. Kinetic studies revealed the synergistic catalysis of Fe and Mn sites, and theoretical calculations indicated that the surface doping of Fe onto MnOOH promoted the generation of highly active sites for the OER.
