Activation of peroxymonosulfate by single-atom Fe-g-C3N4 catalysts for high efficiency degradation of tetracycline via nonradical pathways: Role of high-valent iron-oxo species and Fe-Nx sites

Xiaoming Peng et al.

Summary: A Fenton-like catalyst was prepared using isolated Fe single-atom and Fe clusters anchored onto a g-C3N4 framework for the heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline (TC). The single Fe atoms served as active sites with optimal binding energy for PMS activation, leading to the production of high-valent iron-oxo species and single oxygen-dominated nonradical processes causing TC degradation. This study demonstrates the superior catalytic activity of single Fe atoms compared to Fe clusters in the activation of PMS for TC degradation.

Insights into the mechanism of enhanced peroxymonosulfate degraded tetracycline using metal organic framework derived carbonyl modified carbon-coated Fe0

Yiqiong Yang et al.

Summary: Tetracycline (TC) degradation in water was successfully achieved using carbonyl-modified carbon-coated Fe0 as an activator for peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The Fe0 continuously activated PMS, while carbon facilitated electron transportation and the carbonyl group on the carbon surface acted as the active site. This study demonstrates the promising potential of this novel material for removing antibiotics from water.

Improving the Fenton-like catalytic performance of MnOx-Fe3O4/biochar using reducing agents: A comparative study

Ling Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a Fenton-like system was developed using FeMn/biochar composite and reducing agents. Among the tested reducing agents, oxalic acid and hydroxylamine showed significant enhancement in catalytic capacity of the Fenton-like process, leading to improved degradation efficiency of ciprofloxacin. The accelerated metal redox cycle in the FeMn/biochar-H2O2-HA system facilitated the decomposition of H2O2 into reactive oxygen species, which were responsible for the degradation of pollutants.
