Taylor Bubble Generation Rules in Liquids with a Higher Viscosity in a T-Junction Microchannel

Lin Sheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the generation rules and behavior of bubbles in liquids with higher viscosity through experiments and mathematical modeling. The results show that the bubble formation process in higher viscous liquids consists of three stages: expansion, shrinking, and necking, and the generation of satellite bubbles as a new bubble generation performance is observed.

Rufat Sh Abiev

Summary: Based on a recently published mathematical model, this paper presents an extension that allows for the calculation of important parameters in two-phase Taylor flow of non-Newtonian fluids. The obtained results are crucial for mass transfer models and understanding the influence of parameters on heat and mass transfer intensity.

Insights into the dynamics of non-Newtonian droplet formation in a T-junction microchannel

Pooja Kumari et al.

Summary: The non-Newtonian shear-thinning droplet formation mechanism in a T-junction microchannel is experimentally investigated. The influences of both phase flow rates and polymer concentration on flow regime transition are explored. The analysis shows that inertial force dominates in the squeezing stage while viscous and interfacial force control in the filament thinning stage.

Hydrodynamics and Scaling Laws of Gas-Liquid Taylor Flow in Viscous Liquids in a Microchannel

Lin Sheng et al.

Summary: The characteristics of gas-liquid Taylor flow in microchannels with viscous liquids were investigated in this study. The results show that the viscosity effect can dominate the bubble morphology. A novel parameter, the equivalent liquid film thickness, was proposed to describe the liquid film distribution and it is closely related to the capillary number and gas-liquid flow rate ratio. The study also found that the bubble velocity first decreases and then increases with the flow rate of the liquid, and the ideality of the multiphase system decreases with the increase of liquid viscosity and pressure drop.

Intensification of gas-liquid two-phase flow and mass transfer in microchannels by sudden expansions

Shizhe Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that sudden expansion structures can significantly enhance gas-liquid mass transfer; the enhancement factor increases with the number of sudden expansion units and gas-liquid flow rate ratio, while pressure drop shows only slight elevation; the effective mass transfer enhancement efficiency was assessed based on energy consumption and enhancement factor.

High-frequency formation of bubble with short length in a capillary embedded step T-junction microdevice

Lin Sheng et al.

Summary: This work reports the generation of short bubbles with high frequency in a capillary embedded step T-junction microdevice for gas-liquid process intensification. The specific surface area of the generated gas-liquid microdispersion system is larger than 10,400 m(2)/m(3), and the bubble formation mechanism is mainly driven by the relatively higher pressure drop providing a much higher breakup force for the squeezing flow.

Mass transfer of chemical absorption of CO2 in a serpentine minichannel

Zifan Pang et al.

Summary: The absorption kinetics and mass transfer of CO2 in potassium carbonate solution in a serpentine minichannel were studied based on an online method. Three flow patterns were observed, with the length of bubbles decreasing linearly in slug flow. The results showed that the average bubble velocity was only related to gas and liquid flow rates, and the instantaneous mass transfer coefficients increased with bubble mass transfer directionally in slug flow, indicating that convection in liquid slug controlled the mass transfer in the channel.

Enhancement of gas-liquid mass transfer by nanofluids in a microchannel under Taylor flow regime

Mengmeng Huang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the gas-liquid two-phase flow and mass transfer enhancement by nanoparticles in CO2 absorption process using SiO2 nanofluids under Taylor flow regime. The presence of nanoparticles effectively enhances gas-liquid mass transfer, with K(L)a and pressure drop increasing with gas-liquid flow rate ratio, and CO2 absorption efficiency decreasing. However, K(L)a, CO2 absorption efficiency, and pressure drop increase with the increase of particle concentration in slurry.
