Eggshell supported Cu doped FeOx magnetic nanoparticles as peroxymonosulfate activator for carbamazepine degradation

In this study, a composite of Cu doped FeOx nanoparticles supported on eggshell (FeCuOx/eggshell) was synthesized and characterized. The catalytic performance of the FeCuOx/eggshell & peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system for carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation was evaluated, along with the effects of operation parameters and water matrices on CBZ removal. The responsible Reactive Oxygen Species (ROSs) for CBZ oxidation and a proposed degradation pathway were identified through experiments.
In this study, a composite of eggshell supported Cu doped FeOx nanoparticles(FeCuOx/eggshell) was synthesized using a facile co-precipitation method, morphologies and properties were systematically characterized. Mean-while, catalytic performance of the FeCuOx/eggshell & peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system for carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation, effect of operation parameters and water matrices on CBZ removal in this system were evaluated. Besides, Reactive Oxygen Species (ROSs) responsible for the oxidation of CBZ were identified through series of experiments, and a possible degradation pathway of CBZ was proposed. Furthermore, possible reaction mechanism, possible decomposition pathways were proposed. Evolution of CBZ solution toxicity was also evaluated. In addition, installation of FeCuOx/eggshell into PAN membrane has been proved to improve stability and reduce metal release.
