Summary: Surface lattice oxygen plays a crucial role in the degradation of VOCs over transition metal oxides. In this study, MnO2 nanoparticles were in situ grown on the surface of a spinel catalyst through acid etching, leading to the activation of surface lattice oxygen and improved catalytic performance and stability.

Principles and applications of photothermal catalysis

Summary: This review provides an overview of the research progress and applications of photothermal catalysis. The mechanisms of photothermal effects and the functioning principles of photothermal catalysis are discussed. Photothermal catalysts are categorized into three types based on their coupling modes of thermochemical and photochemical pathways. Catalyst design strategies and characterization methods for photothermal catalysis are illustrated. Recent research progress on photothermal catalytic reactions for CO2 conversion, CH4 activation, NH3 synthesis, and water splitting are summarized. Challenges and perspectives in this field are presented as a guide for future development in photothermal catalysis.

Thermocatalytic Activity of Gold Truncated Nanopyramids on Strontium Titanate Nanocube

Summary: Gold truncated nanopyramids smaller than 10nm with clean surfaces were formed on SrTiO3 naocubes, while hemisphere-like gold nanoparticles were formed on irregular shaped SrTiO3 nanoparticles. The former exhibited significantly higher catalytic activity for the oxidation reaction of o-phenylenediamine compared to the latter, with kinetic analyses showing more effective activation of H2O2 in the former system.

By mediating catalytic reactions, plasmonic catalysts can facilitate thermodynamically uphill reactions converting CO2 and/or H2O into valuable products.
