Hydroboration of isocyanates: cobalt-catalyzed vs. catalyst-free approaches

Kristina A. Gudun et al.

Summary: Hydroboration of isocyanates with HBPin was demonstrated using both catalytic and catalyst-free approaches. The catalytic reactions produced formamides or N-methylamines, while the catalyst-free reactions selectively deoxygenated isocyanates to N-methylamines.

[(Me6TREN)MgOCHPh2][B(C6F5)4]: A Model Complex to Explore the Catalytic Activity of Magnesium Alkoxides in Ketone Hydroboration

Ankur et al.

Summary: The discovery of a sterically hindered monomeric alkoxomagnesium compound sheds light on the mechanism of ketone hydroboration, with experiments and DFT calculations suggesting a concerted reaction pathway. Another magnesium compound was found to exhibit high activity and stability under solvent-free conditions, indicating that catalytic reactions will not be hindered by the presence of additional reactive functional groups due to the absence of a metal hydride intermediate.

Readily available lithium compounds as catalysts for the hydroboration of carbodiimides and esters

Milan Kumar Bisai et al.

Summary: This study describes the selective and efficient hydroboration of esters and carbodiimides to alcohols and amines using two well-defined and readily accessible lithium complexes. This provides convenient alternatives to stoichiometric hydride reduction or hydrogenation, and offers a significant step towards finding cheap and green alternatives to noble metal complexes.

Pyridylpyrrolido ligand in Ge(II) and Sn(II) chemistry: synthesis, reactivity and catalytic application

Sanjukta Pahar et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of a new chlorogermylene and the preparation of a series of new germylenes and stannylenes starting from it. The transmetallation reaction between the chlorogermylene and SnCl2 resulted in the formation of a chlorostannylene, showing an unusual example of transmetallation between elements of the same group. The compounds were further characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic studies.

Lithium compound catalyzed deoxygenative hydroboration of primary, secondary and tertiary amides

Milan Kumar Bisai et al.

Summary: A selective and efficient method for the deoxygenative reduction of primary to tertiary amides to corresponding amines using pinacolborane (HBpin) and 2,6-di-tert-butyl phenolate lithium center dot THF (1a) as a catalyst has been achieved. Both experimental and DFT studies provide mechanistic insight into the process.
