An Enzyme-Activatable Aggregation-Induced-Emission Probe: Intraoperative Pathological Fluorescent Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer via Specific Cathepsin E

Zhirong Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, an enzyme-activated aggregation-induced-emission (AIE) probe for high-contrast fluorescence diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (PC) was developed by monitoring the specific overexpressed enzyme Cathepsin E (CTSE). The probe successfully achieved intraoperative diagnosis and tracking of PC in living animal models, addressing accuracy and penetration issues simultaneously. This strategy can expand the database of biocompatible AIE-active probes, especially for establishing intraoperative pathological fluorescent diagnosis.

Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging Nanomedicine for the Treatment of Ischemic Heart Disease

Zhan Zhang et al.

Summary: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a leading cause of disability and death worldwide. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a key role in the progression of diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia, which are independent risk factors for atherosclerosis and the development of IHD. Nanomedicines, as smart and multifunctional nanocarriers, are being extensively studied and explored for their synergistic therapeutic effects.

An Injectable Dual-Function Hydrogel Protects Against Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Modulating ROS/NO Disequilibrium

Tian Hao et al.

Summary: Acute myocardial infarction is the leading cause of death worldwide. Researchers have synthesized a hydrogel that can release nitric oxide to modulate ROS/NO imbalance after ischemia/reperfusion injury, effectively alleviating cardiac damage and improving cardiac function. The hydrogel protects against oxidative stress by activating the antioxidant defense system and reducing inflammation.

Precision Navigation of Hepatic Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury Guided by Lysosomal Viscosity-Activatable NIR-II Fluorescence

Jihong Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed a new fluorescent probe (NP-V) that can detect lysosomal viscosity in hepatocytes and mice during HIRI, and achieved precise resection of the lesion area. It has significant implications in early warning and treatment planning for HIRI.

In Situ Observation of Lysosomal Hypobromous Acid Fluctuations in the Brain of Mice with Depression Phenotypes by Two-Photon Fluorescence Imaging

Hanchuang Zhu et al.

Summary: A novel fluorescent probe NH-HOBr was developed in this study for real-time monitoring of HOBr in living systems, revealing a positive correlation between HOBr content and depression. This finding provides important clues for further research on the pathogenic mechanism of depression and HOBr.

Structural Transformative Antioxidants for Dual-Responsive Anti-Inflammatory Delivery and Photoacoustic Inflammation Imaging

Caiyan Zhao et al.

Summary: Researchers have synthesized PEGylated, phenylboronic acid modified L-DOPA pro-antioxidant nanoparticles (pPADN) that effectively release the model glucocorticoid dexamethasone in response to inflammation, leading to significant mitigation of synovial inflammation and joint destruction in a rat osteoarthritis model with minimal toxicity. Furthermore, the in situ structural transformation also allows for noninvasive monitoring of therapeutic effects as a photoacoustic imaging contrast agent.

Harnessing Se=N to develop novel fluorescent probes for visualizing the variation of endogenous hypobromous acid (HOBr) during the administration of an immunotherapeutic agent

Jian Zhang et al.

Summary: The formation of Se=N enabled the development of ABT-Se and NDI-Se for detecting and visualizing endogenous HOBr in live cells. Specifically, the upregulation of HOBr was monitored by NDI-Se during the administration of an immunotherapeutic agent.
