A Reinterpretation of the Imidazolate Au(I) Cyclic Trinuclear Compounds Reactivity with Iodine and Methyl Iodide with the Perspective of the Inverted Ligand Field Theory

Rossana Galassi et al.

Summary: Coinage metal cyclic trinuclear compounds (CTCs) are a valuable class of metal coordination compounds for optoelectronic applications. This study investigates the effect of different substituents on the chemistry of Au(I) CTCs with imidazolate ligands. Experimental and computational results provide insights into the addition/oxidation reactions and propose a new interpretation of Au(I)-ligand bonding in the oxidized CTCs.

Conformational Switching through the One-Electron Reduction of an Acridinium-based, γ-Cationic Phosphine Gold Complex

Wei-Chun Liu et al.

Summary: By reducing the carbenium moiety in gold complexes, the gold-carbenium interaction can be modulated leading to structural changes. The reduction-induced changes in the electronic and electrostatic characteristics can modulate the charge and accepting properties of the carbenium unit, allowing for specific conformational changes to be induced.

Ligand-enforced intimacy between a gold cation and a carbenium ion: impact on stability and reactivity

Elishua D. Litle et al.

Summary: Controlling the reactivity of transition metal complexes by positioning non-innocent functionalities around the catalytic pocket has led to significant advances in catalysis. The newly synthesized dicationic phosphine gold complexes display high activity, supporting the role of the carbenium unit as a non-innocent functionality to enhance the activity of the adjacent metal center.

Catalysis using transition metal complexes featuring main group metal and metalloid compounds as supporting ligands

Jun Takaya

Summary: Recent research has demonstrated the promising utility of transition metal complexes with M-E bonds stabilized by multidentate ligands, where E represents a main group metal or metalloid element. Main group metal and metalloid ligands provide unique electronic and steric environments to transition metals, leading to remarkable catalytic activity and product selectivity. This perspective highlights the potential of these compounds as a new class of supporting ligands for transition metal catalysts in synthetic chemistry.

Striking ligand-disproportionative Cl/aryl scrambling in a simple Au(iii) system. Solvent role, driving forces and mechanisms

Sara Fernandez-Moyano et al.

Summary: Through experimental and computational methods, this study investigates aryl rearrangements triggered by Cl- extraction, examines the influence of solvent on the formation of gold complexes, and identifies the presence of species in solution. Different coupling rates are found depending on the coordination strength of ligands or solvents in the fourth position.
