Optimal negative derivative feedback controller design for collocated systems based on H2 and H∞ method

The NDF controller, which acts as a band-pass filter, is able to effectively reduce vibrations in collocated systems and control disturbances at different frequencies. Designing negative derivative feedback controller based on maximum damping and H2 method

Summary: This paper presents a straightforward procedure for designing an optimal negative derivative feedback (NDF) controller with maximum damping and H-2 optimization method. The NDF controller functions as a band-pass filter, cutting off control action far from the natural frequencies and reducing spillover effect. It is effective for controlling lower or higher frequency disturbances and can be implemented in vibration mitigation applications with high performance. The closed loop damping is used to extract the controller parameters, and the H-2 method is employed to calculate the optimal value. The study evaluates the impact of changing the controller parameters on the system response and compares the control effort for different closed loop damping with the performance index of the controller. The results demonstrate the significant contribution of the NDF controller to vibration mitigation and its applicability to various systems.

High modal density active vibration attenuation of bladed structure with a decentralized optimal negative derivative feedback controller

Summary: In this study, the effectiveness of decentralized negative derivative feedback (NDF) controllers for active vibration mitigation of bladed structures with piezoelectric patches was evaluated numerically and experimentally. The results showed that the proposed control method was successful in reducing high modal density vibrations and completely damping the mode family of the bladed structures.

Different piezoelectric layer distributions were considered and a PD controller was used to reduce shell vibration. Results show that derivative controllers can affect natural frequencies more and circumferential distribution has more effects on the dynamic of the conical shell.

Summary: This study controls conical shell vibration with distributed piezoelectric layers on the shell surface using a distributed optimal controller. By applying an optimal input voltage to different piezoelectric patches, the actuator applied voltage amplitude can be reduced effectively, thus mitigating vibration. The results show the high impact of the optimal controller on vibration reduction compared with uncontrolled response.
