Biomimetic hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings on pure Mg and their physiological corrosion behavior

Leonardo Hernandez et al.

Summary: The study focused on depositing bioactive hydroxyapatite coatings on pure magnesium surfaces using a modified biomimetic deposition method. Different preparation parameters were adjusted to achieve HAp and/or doped apatite coatings with varying characteristics. Results showed that the behavior of the coatings depended on both the type of surface pre-treatment and the immersion time in the supersaturated calcification solution (SCS).

Preparation and characterization of Y-doped microarc oxidation coating on AZ31 magnesium alloys

Yuanzhi Wu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of AZ31 magnesium alloys and prepare degradable implant materials. Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) was used to prepare coatings with different yttrium content on the surface of AZ31 magnesium alloy. The results showed that the yttrium-doped coating significantly improved the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys and had good biocompatibility. The concentration of 0.0035 mol/L resulted in the highest corrosion resistance of the coating.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the double-layer coating is the most effective in improving the corrosion resistance of the AZ91D alloy due to its good cathodic protection and blocking of the corrosive solution towards the substrate. Additionally, the coating shows excellent biocompatibility, contributing to cell adhesion and proliferation.
