Preparation and phase evolution of high-entropy oxides A2B2O7 with multiple elements at A and B sites

Zhen Teng et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized 37 kinds of high-entropy pyrochlore/fluorite ceramics, with 33 of them showing a single-phase structure where all cations are randomly distributed. Ionic radii, valence, and size disorder play a key role in the formation of single-phase high-entropy pyrochlore/fluorite oxides. The average radius ratio(rA/rB) is the main factor influencing the phase transformation of pyrochlore/fluorite.

Preparation of (Ti,Zr,Hf,Nb,Ta)C high-entropy carbide ceramics through carbosilicothermic reduction of oxides

Pavel Istomin et al.

Summary: The fully dense high-entropy carbide (HEC) ceramic was successfully prepared using a two-step technique involving VCSTR synthesis. During hot pressing, a reaction between (Nb1-xMex)Si2 and HEC promoted effective sintering, resulting in excellent mechanical properties for the obtained ceramic. The use of VCSTR synthesis was effective in lowering sintering temperature and improving mechanical properties.
