Energy-saving glasses based on sodium tungsten bronze-like (Na5W14O44) functional units: Facile synthesis, NIR-shielding performance, and formation mechanism

Guang Yang et al.

Summary: Near-infrared shielding glasses for energy-saving window applications were synthesized by forming sodium tungsten bronze-like functional units in a glass matrix. The optimal glass exhibited low NIR transmission and high visible light transmission, and the mechanism of Na5W14O44 formation was discussed. This study provides guidance for the development of non-film-based and highly efficient energy-saving windows.

Doping Sodium Tungsten Bronze-Like (Na5W14O44) Near-Infrared Shielding Functional Units in Bulk Borosilicate Glasses for Energy-Saving Window Applications

Guang Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a method to distribute tungsten bronze-like functional units in a glass matrix, overcoming the issues of short lifespan associated with film-based glasses. The addition of H2WO4 and Sb2O3 during the glass fabrication process enables the formation of these functional units, and their NIR-shielding ability can be adjusted by varying the concentrations. The optimized composition exhibits excellent shielding ability, visible light transmittance, and thermal insulation, outperforming other materials.

Novel energy-saving window coating based on F doped TiO2 nanocrystals with enhanced NIR shielding performance

Dongming Wang et al.

Summary: Research on F-doped TiO2 nanocrystals can effectively reduce the energy consumption of cooling in hot summer days and improve the energy-saving performance of buildings. The F-TiO2 films exhibit high NIR shielding performance, which can be enhanced by increasing the F doping amount. Additionally, the F-TiO2 films also show good visible transmittance and the ability to lower indoor temperatures.

Alkali metal tungsten bronze-doped energy-saving glasses for near-infrared shielding applications

Guang Yang et al.

Summary: The research investigates the influence of different alkali metal ions on the structure and NIR shielding performance of glasses, finding that the LiF sample has the best NIR shielding performance but sacrifices visible transmittance. Glasses containing mixed Li+ and K+ cooperate to form a high-quality codoped tungsten bronze, while glasses containing mixed Li+ and Na+ compete for limited tungsten resources.
