Evolution of layer distance and structural arrangement of graphene oxide with various oxygen content and functional types in low temperature: A ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulation

Yushan Bu et al.

Summary: This study systematically examined how the density, type, and temperature of oxygen-containing groups affect the layer spacing and properties of multilayer graphene oxide through molecular dynamics simulations. The density of oxygen-containing groups was found to be the main variable controlling surface oxidation and deformation of graphene sheets.

Dissolution of Al2O3-C bricks in 45 wt% CaO-45 wt% SiO2-x wt% CaF2-(10-x) wt% Na2O slag

Yu Liu et al.

Summary: This study explores the dissolution behavior of Al2O3-C refractories in CaO-SiO2-based slags with varying CaF2 and Na2O contents. The results show that the replacement of CaF2 with Na2O can slow down the dissolution rate of refractories, but excessive Na2O content accelerates the corrosion. Therefore, careful selection of slag composition is crucial in designing submerged entry nozzles.

Evolution and mechanism of dissolutive wetting between hot metal and carbon brick

Yong Deng et al.

Summary: The dissolutive wetting between hot metal and carbon brick is a complex problem. This study aims to clarify the mechanism of dissolutive wetting at the interface between hot metal and carbon brick. The interfacial morphology and change in wetting angle were analyzed. The results showed the formation of a concave-like interface after dissolutive wetting, with the concave depth decreasing with higher carbon content in the hot metal. Graphite flakes appeared at the interface after dissolutive wetting. The wetting angle exhibited a two-stage change. An interface shape model and coupling control mechanism were established to describe the dissolutive wetting. Wetting was determined by the relative situation of interfacial energy and dissolution free energy.

Interaction between MgO-C-bricks and ladle slag with a 1:1 CaO/Al2O3 ratio and varying SiO2 content

Anton Yehorov et al.

Summary: The interaction between industrial ladle lining bricks and secondary metallurgical slag varied based on the slag composition and temperature, leading to different wear behavior and chemical reactions. The viscosity, MgO saturation, and carbothermal reactions in slag played key roles in infiltrating the lining material. Impurities in the lining material contributed to the formation of a liquid slag phase, compromising material strength and causing loss of MgO grains.

Wetting behavior and mechanism between hot metal and carbon brick

Yong Deng et al.

Summary: The wetting behavior between hot metal and carbon brick was studied, showing that the wetting angle decreased with wetting time and increased with initial carbon content in hot metal. The dissolution of carbon during wetting process left a concave on the carbon brick, leading to an increase in graphitization degree. The change in interfacial energy caused by carbon dissolution reaction was found to be essential in determining the wetting angle during the initial stage of the wetting reaction.
