Corrosion behavior of high-entropy (La0.2Nd0.2Sm0.2Eu0.2Gd0.2)Ce2O7 in different aggressive molten salt

Yun Xue et al.

Summary: The high-entropy material HECO shows smaller corrosion depth than LCO except for partial exfoliation. The sluggish diffusion effect of HECO inhibits nucleation of corrosion products and leads to a reduction in corrosion depth through horizontal growth. Additionally, the correlation between the aggressiveness of molten salt and the corrosion alleviation is observed.

Size effects on high temperature oxidation of MCrAlY coatings processed via APS and HVOF depositions

Ali Kalush et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the impact of defects inherited from the deposition processes on the lifetime of MCrAlY coatings. The oxidation behavior of two coatings, processed by different projection techniques, was investigated. Thicker coatings were found to have a higher oxidation rate and experienced chemical failure. Additionally, thicker coatings also developed mechanically induced chemical failure.

Effects of Stepped Heating on the Initial Growth of Oxide Scales on NiCrAlHf Bond Coat Alloy under Air and Water Vapor Atmospheres

Yang He et al.

Summary: Temperature and atmosphere significantly affect the oxidation of MCrAlY (M = Ni, Co) bond coating. The initial growth behavior of the NiCrAlHf bond coat alloy was studied at 1100 degrees C under different atmospheric conditions and heating methods. The results showed that using stepped heating at low temperatures led to the formation of a thick Al2O3 oxide layer and large HfO2 particles. However, in air and water vapor atmospheres, the oxide scale was thinner and the HfO2 precipitates were smaller in stepped heating compared to constant heating, possibly due to different microstructures induced by the size and distribution of the HfO2 particles, particularly voids within the oxide scale.

High-entropy (La0.2Nd0.2Sm0.2Eu0.2Gd0.2)2Ce2O7: A potential thermal barrier material with improved thermo-physical properties

Yun Xue et al.

Summary: By designing and synthesizing high-entropy (La0.2Nd0.2Sm0.2Eu0.2Gd0.2)(2)Ce2O7, the thermal expansion property of oxides is improved and the thermal conductivity is reduced. The multicomponent material has a higher thermal expansion coefficient and prominent thermal insulation behavior, and maintains phase stability at high temperatures, making it a promising TBC material.

Progress in cognition of gas-solid interface reaction for non-oxide ceramics at high temperature

Enhui Wang et al.

Summary: With the advancement of science and technology, non-oxide ceramics (NOCs) play a crucial role in various fields at high temperatures. However, they are prone to complex gas-solid interface reactions under harsh conditions, emphasizing the importance of understanding these reactions for material performance improvement. Different approaches, including theoretical, experimental, and simulative methods, are used to efficiently study the reaction behavior and mechanisms of NOCs at the gas-solid interface.

Microstructure and oxidation behaviour of MoSi2 coating combined MoB diffusion barrier layer on Mo substrate at 1300 °C

Ruixiong Zhai et al.

Summary: Using a two-step pack cementation method, double layers of MoSi2-MoB were applied on the surface of a Mo substrate to enhance its oxidation resistance at high temperatures. The formation of a dense and continuous SiO2 layer with low O-2 permeability contributed to the excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance of the double layers.

Formation of MoSi2 and Si/MoSi2 coatings on TZM (Mo-0.5Ti-0.1Zr-0.02C) alloy by hot dip silicon-plating method

Yingyi Zhang et al.

Summary: MoSi2 and Si-MoSi2 composite coatings with fine MoSi2 grain size and high surface silicon concentration were successfully deposited on TZM alloy using a hot dip silicon-plating method. The gradient structure of the coatings, including MoSi2 layer, Mo5Si3C layer, and Si-MoSi2 layer, contributes to reducing stress mutation and crack propagation. SEM and CLSM results demonstrate that a significant portion of MoSi2 grains are covered by silicon layer, leading to very low coating surface roughness when deposition time exceeds 10 minutes.

Screening for Al2O3 failure in MCrAlY APS coatings using short-term oxidation at high temperature

Damien Texier et al.

Summary: High temperature oxidation behavior of APS processed NiCoCrAlY coating was investigated at 1150 ?C. Intrinsic chemical failure (InCF) occurred after the full consumption of Al, leading to Cr2O3 growth and CrN precipitation at the Al2O3/alloy interface. Mass gain slowed down after InCF, and even resulted in mass loss associated with the volatilization of Cr2O3.

The effect of Ta on oxidation resistance of TiC/hastelloy composites

Qian Qi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of Ta on the oxidation resistance of TiC/hastelloy composites and finds that increasing Ta content can optimize the oxidation resistance by forming an oxide scale with CrTaO4. Ta-doped TiO2 inhibits inward diffusion of oxygen, while CrTaO4 suppresses outward diffusion of Ni, Ti, and Cr, resulting in better protective effects for the composites.

Summary: This research investigated the surface properties of ZrN, TaN, and (Zr, Ta)N coatings with different Ta contents, revealing that the addition of Ta can enhance oxidation resistance, reduce thermal stress, and decrease the wear rate of the coatings. The formation of a dense (Zr, Ta)-rich oxide on the coating surface contributes to the improved performance of the coatings.
