Nano-fluoro dispersion functionalized superhydrophobic degummed & waste silk fabric for sustained recovery of petroleum oils & organic solvents from wastewater

Summary: In this study, superwettable and chemically stable waste silk fabric and degummed silk were used for treatment of oily wastewater and oil/solvent recovery. The silk functionalized with a nano-fluoro dispersion showed superhydrophobic and oleophilic properties, demonstrating high filtration efficiencies and permeation flux for oil-water separation. The functionalized silk also exhibited excellent stability in acidic and alkaline mediums, along with thermal stability. The results indicate that nano-fluoro dispersion functionalized silk can be successfully employed for effective oil/solvent-water filtration and treatment of oily wastewater.

Summary: In this study, a nickel/copper alloy coating with layered micro/nanostructures was prepared on a brass substrate through controlled electrochemical co-deposition. The surface of the alloy coating was modified to achieve excellent super-amphiphobicity. The resulting composite coating exhibited outstanding performance in terms of wettability, self-cleaning ability, mechanical and chemical stability, as well as corrosion resistance, indicating its promising industrial applications.

Summary: This study aims to improve the corrosion resistance of carbon steel by depositing phosphate and paint layers on its surface, which showed higher polarization resistance in saltwater. Additionally, the corrosion rate was observed to decrease with longer immersion time. SEM and EDS analysis revealed the formation of iron oxides or hydroxy-oxides on the sample's surface after immersion, indicating that all types of deposited layers enhance the corrosion resistance of C45 steel.

Summary: A novel strategy was proposed for fabrication of a hydrophilic and conductive separation membrane with low cost, excellent filtration performance, and high chemical stability. The modified membrane showed outstanding separation efficiency, permeation flux, and cycle stability, especially when applied with an external electric field. External electric field significantly enhanced the filtration performance of the membrane, demonstrating improved flux recovery rate and stability.

One-step fabrication of soft calcium superhydrophobic surfaces by a simple electrodeposition process

Summary: This study presents a simple one-step electrodeposition process to fabricate superhydrophobic calcium surfaces on metal substrates in an electrolyte solution, avoiding complex post-treatment. The surfaces were mainly composed of calcium myristate, dramatically reducing surface free energy and achieving a maximum contact angle of 166 degrees. By adjusting the deposition time, the surface structure can be transformed, while the superhydrophobic surfaces exhibit excellent rebound performance and surface hardness after pressing force.
