Tunable oxygen vacancies of cobalt oxides for efficient gas sensing application

Yushu Shi et al.

Summary: This study successfully detected triethylamine (TEA) using newly generated p-type Co3O4 nanosheets with rich oxygen vacancies, showing high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, and stability at an operating temperature of 200 degrees Celsius. By controlling annealing temperature to adjust oxygen vacancies and particle morphologies, a new approach for designing p-type metal oxide semiconductor nanomaterials for gas sensing applications was proposed.

NO2 gas sensing properties of chemically grown Al doped ZnO nanorods

V. L. Patil et al.

Summary: This report focuses on the deposition of nanocrystalline aluminium doped ZnO (Al doped ZnO: AZO) samples on seeded glass substrates using a cost-effective reflux method. The doping concentration of 'Al' ions ranged from 1 to 3 vol%. The study found that the deposited AZO samples exhibited a wurtzite hexagonal crystal structure and the formation of nanorods for undoped ZnO, with a reduction in diameter and the formation of fine tips for AZO samples. The photoluminescence study confirmed the presence of oxygen vacancies and defects in the AZO samples. Furthermore, the AZO samples demonstrated excellent gas sensing performance towards NO2 gas at a temperature of 175 degrees C, with a gas sensitivity of 85% for 5 ppm NO2 gas. This work shows promise for practical applications in the gas sensor technology field, particularly for low detection limits at low operating temperatures.

Realization of low-temperature and selective NO2 sensing of SnO2 nanowires via synergistic effects of Pt decoration and Bi2O3 branching

Jae Hoon Bang et al.

Summary: In this study, Pt-decorated Bi2O3-branched SnO2 nanowires gas sensor exhibited superior NO2 sensing performance compared to pristine and branched SnO2 gas sensors, and operated at near room temperature. The enhanced sensing capacity was attributed to the synergistic effects of Pt decoration and Bi2O3 branching.

ZnO thin films containing aliovalent ions for NO2 gas sensor activated by visible light

Summary: This study reports on the detection of ppb-level NO2 using ZnO nanocrystalline film with visible-light and mild thermal-activation modes. Trivalent and tetravalent doping trigger fast response behavior, with the best performance seen from a combination of purple-blue light and thermal activation. The influence of relative humidity on gas sensing performances is also investigated, with a slight decrease in NO2 response observed at 40% RH.
