High responsivity n-ZnO/p-CuO heterojunction thin film synthesised by low-cost SILAR method for photodiode applications

M. Thirumoorthi et al.

Summary: In this study, a n-ZnO/p-CuO heterojunction thin film was prepared using the low-cost SILAR method, and a comparative analysis was conducted with ZnO and CuO thin film photodetectors. The prepared heterojunction film exhibited a mixture of hexagonal structure of ZnO and monoclinic structure of CuO, with uniform surface morphology. The optical absorption spectrum showed high photon absorption in the range of 2-6% at 365 nm UV light. The photoluminescence spectrum indicated the presence of different types of point defects in the heterojunction film. The photo sensing results demonstrated that the ZnO/CuO heterojunction film exhibited good photodiode characteristics.

Himadri Tanaya Das et al.

Summary: CuO thin films deposited using SILAR coating technique exhibit significant changes in crystallinity, morphology, and optical, electrical, and photosensing properties with different dip-cycles. The film prepared with 100 dip-cycles shows the best performance due to improved crystallinity and uniform distribution of nanoclusters.UV absorption studies reveal that the CuO-100 film has the highest absorption and a low bandgap of 1.67 eV. In addition, the CuO-100 film exhibits a minimum resistivity, high carrier concentration, and mobility. The I-V characteristics show that the CuO-100 film has a lower ideality factor and high responsivity and external quantum efficiency values.
