DSTYK Enhances Chemoresistance in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells

Stella C. Ogbu et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is a prevalent cancer in women, and therapeutic resistance to chemotherapy is a major challenge in improving the treatment outcomes. A protein kinase called DSTYK has been found to play a crucial role in promoting chemoresistance in breast cancer cells, particularly in triple-negative breast cancer. This discovery provides valuable insights and lays the foundation for developing new strategies targeting DSTYK to enhance the efficacy of TNBC therapy.

Cold Atmospheric Plasma Attenuates Breast Cancer Cell Growth Through Regulation of Cell Microenvironment Effectors

Christos A. Aggelopoulos et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment on breast cancer cells of different phenotypes and estrogen receptor (ER) status. CAP treatment induced phenotypic changes and apoptosis in breast cancer cells, and significantly reduced CD44 protein expression. CAP could be an efficient therapeutic approach for distinct breast cancer subtypes.

Plasma-activated medium induces ferroptosis by depleting FSP1 in human lung cancer cells

Ara Jo et al.

Summary: This study reveals that plasma-activated medium (PAM) promotes cell death in human lung cancer cells through the induction of ferroptosis. PAM increases intracellular and lipid ROS, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, which can be protected by ROS scavengers and ferroptosis inhibitors.

BCL2A1 regulates Canady Helios Cold Plasma-induced cell death in triple-negative breast cancer

Saravana R. K. Murthy et al.

Summary: This study suggests that cold plasma therapy has potential as a treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), a subtype of breast cancer with poor prognosis. The gene marker BCL2A1 was found to play a key role in resistance to cold plasma-induced cell death in TNBC, and this resistance can be reversed by combining siRNA or a BCL2A1 antagonist with cold plasma therapy.

Oxidative Stress Differentially Influences the Survival and Metabolism of Cells in the Melanoma Microenvironment

Emily R. Trzeciak et al.

Summary: The cellular composition of the tumor microenvironment has a significant impact on responses to cancer therapies. This study analyzes the effects of oxidative stress induced by cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) on tumor cells, T cells, and macrophages in melanoma microenvironment. The study found that CAP treatment reduced viability and proliferation of cells, induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and increased mitochondrial stress. CAP treatment also influenced the polarization of macrophages and inhibited the growth of melanoma cells in vitro.

M. Y. Errahmani et al.

Summary: This study revealed that over the past decade in France, breast cancer patients treated with radiotherapy were at a higher risk of permanent pacemaker implantation compared to those not treated with radiotherapy and the general population. Further research is recommended to delve deeper into this matter.

Cold atmospheric plasma selectively induces G0/G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in AR-independent prostate cancer cells

Dong Hua et al.

Summary: Cold atmospheric plasma selectively inhibits cell proliferation and migration in androgen receptor-independent prostate cancer cells by inducing cell apoptosis and G0/G1 cell cycle arrest through modulating the MAPK and NF-kB pathways in response to intracellular redox level. This study provides novel therapeutic insights for the treatment of such cancers and suggests the potential synergistic use of cold atmospheric plasma and chemotherapies in eradicating these cancer cells.
