Multi-criteria assessment approach of slow-moving urban landslide hazard: the case of Moulay Yacoub, Morocco

Summary: The town of Moulay Yacoub has undergone significant urban expansion due to the high demand for housing fuelled by tourism activities. However, most buildings in the area suffer from damage caused by geological, climatic, and geomorphic factors. The instability phenomena in the region are mainly triggered by intense rainfall and the expansive behavior of marly soils. The multi-disciplinary approach used in this study provides a comprehensive understanding of slope instability processes and serves as a blueprint for future site-specific studies in the region.

The importance of investigating causative factors and training data selection for accurate landslide susceptibility assessment: the case of Ain Lahcen commune (Tetouan, Northern Morocco)

Summary: This study investigated the effects of training data and computation technique selection on the accuracy and performance of landslide susceptibility maps (LSMs). The results showed that including relict landslides in the training data decreases the accuracy of LSMs, while the choice of different predictive variables combinations has a less significant impact. Models produced using frequency ratio and logistic regression tend to perform better, and artificial neural networks seem to outperform other models.

Combining rainfall-induced shallow landslides and subsequent debris flows for hazard chain prediction

Summary: In mountainous regions, rainfall-induced landslides, debris flows, and other natural hazards often form a chain of disasters. This study proposes a method that combines the TRIGRS model and the RAMMS model to achieve hourly hazard prediction. The TRIGRS model performs well in predicting the spatial distribution of shallow landslides, making it suitable for debris flow simulations. The coupled model accurately simulates debris flows and can dynamically predict disasters based on actual rainfall events. The results of this study are important for hazard prediction of rainfall-induced landslide-debris flow hazards in mountainous regions.

The importance of input data on landslide susceptibility mapping

Comparing landslide size probability distribution at the landscape scale (Loess Plateau and the Qinba Mountains, Central China) using double Pareto and inverse gamma

Summary: The study found significant differences in landslide size distribution between the Loess Plateau and the Qinba Mountains, which can be described by the double Pareto and inverse gamma distributions respectively. Additionally, the exponent of power law scaling α is strongly related to the control parameter rho + 1 in the inverse gamma function.
