Hydrogen photo-production from glycerol on platinum, gold and silver-modified TiO2-USY62 catalysts

Francisco Lopez-Tenllado et al.

Summary: In this work, TiO2 supported on zeolite (USY62) photocatalysts were synthesized by sol-gel method and incorporated with Pt, Au, or Ag by impregnation or photodeposition. The photocatalytic activity of the composites was examined and it was found that catalysts prepared by photodeposition were more active. Moreover, zeolite-supported TiO2 showed smaller deactivation in H2 production compared to unsupported TiO2. A photocatalyst (USY-Ti-PPt) with up to four times higher activity than unsupported TiO2 under UV radiation was prepared.

Photodeposition of earth-abundant cocatalysts in photocatalytic water splitting: Methods, functions, and mechanisms

Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic water splitting using semiconductor photocatalysts is a promising approach for producing carbon-neutral, sustainable, and clean H-2 fuel. The loading of cocatalysts has been extensively used to improve the efficiency of photocatalysts. However, the high cost and rarity of noble metal cocatalysts have hindered their utilization for large-scale energy production. In this review, the photodeposition of earth-abundant cocatalysts is discussed as a method to address this challenge.

Co-implanting of TiO2 and liquid-phase-delaminated g-C3N4 on multi-functional graphene nanobridges for enhancing photocatalytic degradation of acetaminophen

Sina Moradi et al.

Summary: An efficient all-solid-state Z-type photocatalyst TGCN was successfully fabricated by introducing graphene as shuttle electron mediator to TiO2 and g-C3N4 composites, significantly enhancing degradation performance and photo-activity. The adsorption edge of TGCN was extended to the visible-light region by g-C3N4 nanosheets, benefiting a more favorable band gap position. Graphene was found to facilitate photo-induced electron transportation and separation, while also improving specific surface area and promoting ACM adsorption capacity.

Application of EPR Spectroscopy in TiO2 and Nb2O5 Photocatalysis

Osama Al-Madanat et al.

Summary: The interaction of light with semiconducting materials, particularly in photocatalysis, has recently gained attention due to its potential applications in green energy and environmental remediation. The characterization of the electronic structure of semiconductors is crucial for understanding the photocatalytic process, with EPR spectroscopy serving as a valuable tool for monitoring photoinduced phenomena. EPR studies on titanium dioxide and niobium oxide photocatalysts have provided valuable insights into the mechanisms and behaviors of photogenerated species, highlighting the importance of electron donors and acceptors in the solid or liquid phase photocatalytic processes.

Hydrogen photoproduction on TiO2-CuO artificial olive leaves*

Juan Martin-Gomez et al.

Summary: Olive leaves were used as biotemplates to synthesize diverse TiO2-CuO solids, which showed enhanced photocatalytic activity. The incorporation of copper resulted in a significant increase in hydrogen production compared to bare titania. The study also revealed that there is an optimal surface copper content for promoting photocatalytic performance, with smaller CuO crystallite sizes leading to better catalytic performance under solar light irradiation.
