Zeolite membranes: Synthesis and applications

Catia Algieri et al.

Summary: Membrane-based technology is attracting attention due to its low energy consumption, mild operating conditions, and high efficiency. Polymeric membranes are widely used for their low cost and reproducible preparation, but face issues like fouling and trade-off between permeability and selectivity. Inorganic membranes like zeolite membranes, with their hydrophilic nature, high stability, permeability, and selectivity, offer solutions to these problems. Their molecular-level pore size and adsorption property make them suitable for a variety of separation processes, although challenges like reproducibility, defects, and high manufacturing costs still hinder their industrial-scale application.

Mechanism Investigations on Water Gas Shift Reaction over Cu(111), Cu(100), and Cu(211) Surfaces

Zhiyuan Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of low-temperature water gas shift (WGS) reactions on Cu-based catalysts using density functional theory (DFT). It is found that different surface structures of Cu influence the catalytic activity and mechanism, with Cu(211) surface exhibiting the best performance. The findings provide theoretical insights for the rational design of highly active Cu-based catalysts for the WGS reaction.

Advanced Catalysts for the Water Gas Shift Reaction

Erlisa Baraj et al.

Summary: The WGS reaction is a exothermic reaction used industrially for over a hundred years, now receiving attention as a way to produce environmentally acceptable hydrogen. Optimal catalysts are key for industrial scale applications, with new types being developed to improve on commonly used Fe- and Cu-based catalysts. Lab tests show that Cu-based catalysts perform well in a certain temperature range, while Co-based catalysts show good resistance to sulfur.

Shielding Protection by Mesoporous Catalysts for Improving Plasma-Catalytic Ambient Ammonia Synthesis

Yaolin Wang et al.

Summary: Plasma catalysis holds promise for decentralized NH3 synthesis using renewable energy, with a bespoke design of supported Ni catalysts showing potential for efficient NH3 production. By depositing Ni active sites on the surface of mesoporous MCM-41, it enhances plasma-catalyst interactions and shields NH3 from decomposition, driving the reaction forward effectively. This demonstrates the importance of rational catalyst design for improving plasma-catalytic processes.

The water gas shift reaction: Catalysts and reaction mechanism

Erlisa Baraj et al.

Summary: The water gas shift reaction (WGSR) is a moderately exothermic reaction between carbon monoxide and steam, typically conducted in two stages at different temperatures with different catalysts. There is no universally accepted reaction mechanism for WGSR, and catalyst deactivation presents a limitation on its utilization. Various catalysts are active for WGSR, and catalyst preparation and pre-treatment steps play a crucial role in catalyst activity.

Efficient Water-Gas Shift Catalysts for H2O and CO Dissociation Using Cu-Ni Step Alloy Surfaces

Sudipta Roy et al.

Summary: The dissociation of H2O is found to be more facile than CO on (211) step bimetallic alloy surfaces. Introduction of different metal atoms affects the reactivity of H2O dissociation. Cu-based (211) step alloy surfaces exhibit improved performance as catalysts for the water-gas shift reaction.
