Mesoporous carbon promoting the efficiency and stability of single atomic electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction

Xilong Wang et al.

Summary: This study develops a facile benzoate-assisted self-template strategy to enhance oxygen reduction reaction catalytic performance and stability of atomically dispersed Fe-N-C catalysts. The strategy promotes the formation of catalysts with denser accessible active sites and mesopores, leading to excellent electrocatalytic performance and long-term stability. The catalyst also exhibits superior tolerance to methanol crossover and shows potential application in zinc-air batteries.

Directly anchoring Ag single atoms on α-MnO2 nanorods as efficient oxygen reduction catalysts for Mg-air fuel cell

Guangxing Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the enhancement of oxygen reduction performance in Mg-air fuel cells by anchoring Ag single atoms onto the surface of alpha-MnO2 nanorods, showing improved catalytic activity and high power density. The Ag@alpha-MnO2 catalyst exhibits better stability, anti-poisoning capability, and comparable performance to commercial Pt/C, providing new ideas for efficient and cost-effective ORR catalyst in metal-air fuel cells.

Self-Reconstruction of Co/Co2P Heterojunctions Confined in N-Doped Carbon Nanotubes for Zinc-Air Flow Batteries

Mingjie Wu et al.

Summary: The study presents a new strategy for fabricating Co/Co2P@NCNTs catalysts, with operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements revealing the dynamic structural evolution of the catalyst during electrocatalytic operations. The self-reconstruction of the Co/Co2P heterojunctions into active CoOx(OH)(y) species is observed, contributing to outstanding ORR/OER activity and durability. The precatalyst shows high cycling stability in rechargeable zinc-air flow batteries.

Synthesis of metallic nanoparticles for heterogeneous catalysis: Application to the Direct Borohydride Fuel Cell

Fabrice Asonkeng et al.

Summary: The fabrication of electrocatalysts for fuel cells with long life and low noble metal consumption continues to be a major challenge. This study presents a chemical synthesis process for single-step synthesis and direct deposition of gold, palladium, and platinum nanoparticles onto a carbon-fibers-based porous transport layer (PTL). The methodology was validated through SEM and XRD characterization, and demonstrated that an optimum loading of platinum below 0.16 mg Pt / cm2 achieved the best compromise between power density and faradic efficiency for the borohydride oxidation reaction (BOR). These Pt-coated PTL materials combine high performance with very low metal loading, promising cost reduction.

Strongly stabilized integrated bimetallic oxide of Fe2O3-MoO3 Nano-crystal entrapped N-doped graphene as a superior oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalyst

Kakali Maiti et al.

Summary: This study focused on the synthesis of a Fe2O3-MoO3/NG core-shell catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells, which demonstrated excellent catalytic activity and long-term durability, as well as better methanol tolerance. The unique synergistic interactions of bimetallic Fe2O3-MoO3 and nitrogen-doped graphene support contribute to enhancing catalytic activity. The Fe2O3-MoO3/NG core-shell structure shows high potential to be an efficient non-precious electrocatalyst with promising applications in electrochemical energy conversion and storage.
