Surface engineering with microstructured gel networks for superwetting membranes

Yuandong Jia et al.

Summary: Superwetting surfaces have various applications, with hydrogel-based coatings offering stable water affinity, and micro/nanogels enhancing superwetting properties through larger surface area and increased roughness. The use of precursor solutions in porous membrane substrates allows for the formation of microstructured gel layers, demonstrating long-term stable superwetting properties and excellent separation efficiency for oil-in-water emulsions. The developed microstructure network layer enables purified water production at a faster rate with better oil rejection compared to pristine membranes.
