Biomedical application of chondroitin sulfate with nanoparticles in drug delivery systems: systematic review

Abebe Feyissa Amhare et al.

Summary: Chondroitin sulphate combined with nanoparticles has shown potential in drug delivery systems, with efficient drug loading and sustained drug release characteristics. Twenty original articles were included in the study, with most studies presenting baseline characteristics and outcomes appropriately. The risk of bias was rated as high in only two out of the twenty studies.

Drug delivery systems based on CD44-targeted glycosaminoglycans for cancer therapy

Min Li et al.

Summary: Polysaccharide-based biomaterials hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) have attracted attention for drug delivery in tumor therapy due to their excellent biocompatibility and targeting ability for cluster determinant 44 (CD44). This review covers the formation and various types of CS-based NPs, as well as the applications of HA- and CS-based NPs in tumor chemotherapy, gene therapy, and other cancer therapies.

Encapsulation of Curcumin in Polystyrene-Based Nanoparticles-Drug Loading Capacity and Cytotoxicity

Maria Zatorska-Plachta et al.

Summary: PS-PAA nanoparticles were studied for their interaction with the hydrophobic drug curcumin. The nanoparticles have a compact hydrophobic core that efficiently encloses curcumin during formation. Experimental results showed low cytotoxicity of the nanoparticles to human skin fibroblasts, with curcumin further enhancing their biocompatibility.

Preparation and characterization of amphiphilic nanoparticles based on chondroitin sulfate A conjugated with hydrophobic drug for enhanced doxorubicin delivery

Xin Xie et al.

Summary: A novel chondroitin sulfate A conjugated doxorubicin (CSA-DOX) was synthesized and characterized, with a mean diameter of 152 nm. The CSA-DOX/DOX nanoparticles exhibited enhanced cellular uptake of DOX into CD44 receptor-positive A549 cells, leading to significant cytotoxicity improvement against the cells. Results indicated that CSA-DOX copolymer could be a potential carrier for antitumor drug delivery.
