Protective Coatings Based on Cellulose Nanofibrils, Cellulose Nanocrystals, and Lignin Nanoparticles for the Conservation of Cellulosic Artifacts

Camilla H. M. Camargos et al.

Summary: Green nanocomposites combining cellulose nano fibrils, cellulose nanocrystals, and lignin nano particles were designed and applied as protective coatings on cellulosic materials for the first time. These coatings, obtained from renewable sources, showed high compatibility with wood, paper, and fabric and effectively protected the cellulosic substrates against degradation.

A facile strategy to achieve monodispersity and stability of pigment TiO2 particles in low viscosity systems

Xiaoyao Shen et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new strategy using a hydrophobic-hydrophilic structure to achieve single-dispersed TiO2 particles in low viscosity systems without additives. The modified TiO2 particles maintain stability for at least 60 days and exhibit rheological properties similar to Newtonian fluids.

Nanocellulose in Emulsions and Heterogeneous Water-Based Polymer Systems: A Review

Stephanie A. Kedzior et al.

Summary: Nanocelluloses, including bacterial nanocellulose, cellulose nanocrystals, and cellulose nanofibrils, are cellulose-based materials with unique properties that can assemble at oil-water interfaces and provide new functionality to emulsion and latex systems. They offer unprecedented control as property modifiers for emulsion and polymer applications, influencing properties such as emulsion type, stability, and stimuli-responsive behavior. Nanocellulose can tune polymer particle properties and be used to produce capsules and polymer nanocomposites with enhanced mechanical, thermal, and adhesive properties.
