Morphometry of the pedipalp patella provides new characters for species-level taxonomy in whip spiders (Arachnida, Amblypygi): A test case with description of a new species of Phrynus

Michael Seiter et al.

Summary: This study uses landmark-based morphometrics to describe the pedipalp structure of Neotropical whip spiders and proposes a new species. The analysis reveals that the ratios between spine lengths are useful morphometric characters for species-level taxonomy.

Assessing the patterns and drivers of shape complexity in the amblypygid pedipalp

Callum McLean et al.

Summary: This study quantified trends in amblypygid pedipalp shape complexity by analyzing 2D outlines across multiple species and genera. Results showed that complexity decreases as pedipalp length increases, indicating a trade-off between length and spination. Female-biased sexual dimorphism in shape complexity was also present in the tibial segment.
