Optimal temperature ranges considering gender differences in thermal comfort, work performance, and sick building syndrome: A winter field study in university classrooms

Jinhua Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the optimal temperature ranges for male and female students in university classrooms to achieve comfortable feelings, high work performance, and low prevalence of sick building syndrome (SBS). Results showed that males were more comfortable, had higher work performance, and lower SBS prevalence in cool environments compared to females. Balanced optimal temperature ranges were found to be 17.3-22.0 degrees C for males and 18.5-20.8 degrees C for females, with higher temperatures needed to ensure high willingness to work.

Infrared-Fused Vision-Based Thermoregulation Performance Estimation for Personal Thermal Comfort-Driven HVAC System Controls

Ali Ghahramani et al.

Summary: Thermal comfort is crucial for occupant health, well-being, and productivity in buildings. This study proposes a novel method of thermal infrared-fused computer vision sensing to monitor thermoregulation performance. By using personalized and generalized comfort modeling methods, the HVAC system operations can be adjusted based on the time-series of hot and cold indices.

Meeting thermal needs of occupants in shared space with an adjustable thermostat and local heating in winter: An experimental study

Yingdong He et al.

Summary: This study explores thermostat-use behaviors of occupants in shared space during winter, with the finding that thermal need serves as the reference for optimizing indoor set-points. The study also reveals that meeting thermal needs is more closely related to reducing cool sensation than changing set-points.

Development of a novel method to detect clothing level and facial skin temperature for controlling HVAC systems

Xuan Li et al.

Summary: This study developed a new control strategy for HVAC systems that adjusts thermostat settings based on clothing level and mean facial skin temperature, providing occupants with a more comfortable indoor thermal environment. Experimental tests showed that with the use of the new control strategy, 91% of the subjects tested felt thermally neutral in the office.

OpenPose: Realtime Multi-Person 2D Pose Estimation Using Part Affinity Fields

Zhe Cao et al.

Summary: This work presents a real-time approach to detect the 2D pose of multiple people in an image, achieving high accuracy and real-time performance regardless of the number of people in the image. By refining PAFs separately, both runtime performance and accuracy are significantly improved. Additionally, the first combined body and foot keypoint detector reduces inference time and maintains accuracy compared to running them sequentially.
