Peer influence in adolescent drinking behavior: A meta-analysis of stochastic actor-based modeling studies

Valeria Ivaniushina et al.

Summary: The advancement in social network analysis methodologies has enabled accurate estimation of peer influence effects free from peer selection effects. Further research is needed to clarify the roles of age, gender, and individual susceptibility in the changing behavior of adolescents under the influence of their peers. Understanding the effects of peer influence can help inform practitioners and policymakers in designing and delivering more effective prevention programs.

Combinations of alcohol-induced flushing with genetic polymorphisms of alcohol and aldehyde dehydrogenases and the risk of alcohol dependence in Japanese men and women

Akira Yokoyama et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the risk of alcohol dependence in Japanese men and women based on combinations of alcohol flushing, ALDH2, and ADH1B genotypes. Results showed that alcohol flushing, ALDH2 genotype, and ADH1B genotype were associated with alcohol dependence, and individuals with previous flushing tendencies experienced a disappearance of facial flushing after starting habitual drinking during young adulthood.
