Provider-adolescent discussion and provider education about asthma triggers during pediatric visits: results of a randomized trial

Betsy Sleath et al.

Summary: The study found that providing an asthma question prompt list and video intervention can increase the likelihood of discussing asthma triggers during visits and improve provider education on triggers for adolescents. Additionally, adolescents in the intervention group were more likely to ask questions, leading to more trigger areas being discussed and educated about.

Disparities in Asthma and Allergy Care: What Can We Do?

Princess U. Ogbogu et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic and movements for social and racial equality have highlighted disparities in American healthcare, which are influenced by social determinants of health, structural racism, and implicit bias. A four-pronged approach is proposed to address these inequities, including racial and ethnic inclusivity in research, diversity in training and practice, improved communication between clinicians and patients, and awareness of social determinants of health. Through these strategies, health disparities can be reduced.
