Secular Trends in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Needs in 191 Countries and Territories From 1990 to 2019

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term trends of musculoskeletal rehabilitation needs across different countries and regions. The results showed a continuous increase in musculoskeletal rehabilitation needs. Supporting government policies to embed and expand rehabilitation in health systems in Europe: A framework for action

Summary: Investment in action is crucial for addressing the challenges posed by chronic diseases and disabilities in European health systems. However, current policy responses often overlook the role of rehabilitation services in achieving public health and social goals. This study proposes a framework for guiding policy action in rehabilitation in Europe, with 48 policy options organized into six domains and twelve subdomains. The framework aims to provide guidance for translating political goals into practical programmatic action and tangible health and social outcomes.

Summary: There is a global burden of musculoskeletal disorders with increasing prevalence, deaths, and DALYs. In 2017, the global prevalence of cases approached 1.3 billion, with death and DALY rates of 121.3 thousand and 138.7 million, respectively. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is higher in women and increases with age.

Summary: The study aims to identify and prioritize solutions to facilitate and promote P&O services in the Iranian HBP. Using a mixed-methods approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather potential solutions, followed by an analytic hierarchy process to prioritize them based on specific criteria. Preventive interventions, infant-specific interventions, inpatient interventions, interventions until 6 years of age, and emergency interventions were identified as the top priorities for inclusion in the Iranian HBP.

Health services coverage: Physical access to rehabilitation facilities in Tehran compare with the country

Summary: The study found that there are various levels of rehabilitation facilities in Tehran, including inpatient, outpatient, community based, and long-term care services. The numbers of rehabilitation professionals per 1,000,000 populations were also provided. The conclusion suggests that Tehran needs to improve physical access to rehabilitation facilities and establish an interdisciplinary referral system.
