Robotic stereotactic body radiotherapy for the management of adrenal gland metastases: a bi-institutional analysis

Felix Ehret et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the outcomes of robotic-assisted short-course stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for adrenal gland metastases (AGMs). The results showed that short-course SBRT is an effective and safe treatment modality for AGMs, with sporadic and manageable treatment-associated side effects. The study suggests that short-course SBRT can be a preferable and time-saving treatment option for AGMs if an adequate biologically effective dose can be safely applied.

Improving the accuracy of motion quantification using area detector computed tomography for real-time tumor-tracking irradiation in stereotactic ablative radiotherapy

Kentaro Suzuki et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate and analyze the variations between the positions of fiducial markers and tumor regions in CyberKnife radiotherapy using 320-row area detector computed tomography. The study proposed a method to accurately contour tumor regions based on the fiducial marker position. The results showed that the proposed method using V-4DCT achieved high delineation accuracy and clarified the positional associations between the fiducial marker and tumor under respiratory motion.

Aggressive surgical approach in patients with adrenal-only metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma enables higher survival rates than standard systemic therapy

Summary: This study demonstrates that in patients with adrenal-only metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma, adrenal resection is associated with significantly higher overall and progression-free survival rates compared to sorafenib therapy.

The Clinical Management of Cholangiocarcinoma in the United States and Europe: A Comprehensive and Evidence-Based Comparison of Guidelines

Zhi Ven Fong et al.

Summary: Guidelines for clinical management of cholangiocarcinoma in the US and Europe show discordance in recommendations for biopsy, fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography scans, and preoperative biliary drainage. Although trials like BILCAP and ABC-02 have provided strong evidence for systemic therapy, the guidelines have not set them as standard care, and future iterations may focus on diagnostic biomarkers and novel therapies.

Modeling of Tumor Control Probability in Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Adrenal Tumors

Priscilla K. Stumpf et al.

Summary: This study reviewed literature on SBRT for adrenal metastases published from 2008 to 2017, and developed treatment guidelines and a tumor control probability model based on the findings. The research recommended tumor doses greater than or equal to 116.4 Gy (α/β = 10 Gy) for achieving high LC rates, while further studies following unified reporting standards are needed for more robust prediction.

Advances in immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma

Bruno Sangro et al.

Summary: Immunotherapeutic interventions have shown effectiveness in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Checkpoint inhibitors have demonstrated strong anti-tumor activity, but other immune strategies have not yet shown consistent clinical activity. Advancing treatment to earlier stages, discovering predictive biomarkers, and exploring effective combinatorial approaches are key challenges in HCC immunotherapy.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy versus conventional external beam radiotherapy in patients with painful spinal metastases: an open-label, multicentre, randomised, controlled, phase 2/3 trial

Arjun Sahgal et al.

Summary: Stereotactic body radiotherapy at a dose of 24 Gy in two daily fractions was found to be superior to conventional external beam radiotherapy at a dose of 20 Gy in five daily fractions in improving the complete response rate for pain in patients with painful spinal metastasis. This suggests that conformal, image-guided, dose-escalated radiotherapy is appropriate for symptom control in selected patients with painful spinal metastases, highlighting the importance of specialized and multidisciplinary care in end-of-life treatment.
