Development of multiple inhibitor tolerant yeast via adaptive laboratory evolution for sustainable bioethanol production

Hemansi et al.

Summary: The adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) improved thermotolerant ethanologenic yeast by increasing specific growth rate and fermentation efficiency in the presence of inhibitors. The adapted yeast showed enhanced ethanol production from sequential dilute acid-alkali pretreated sugarcane bagasse, making bioethanol production more sustainable with reduced cost and time.

Screening and identification of a strain of Aureobasidium pullulans and its application in potato starch industrial waste

Congyu Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, the strain Aureobasidium pullulans HIT-LCY3(T) was used to ferment potato starch waste to produce pullulan and melanin. The optimization of culture conditions led to high yields, and the use of adaptive evolution and air-floating fermenters further increased production. Small-scale and pilot tests confirmed the industrial potential of the process.

Pullulan biosynthesis and its regulation in Aureobasidium spp.

Xin Wei et al.

Summary: Different strains of Aureobasidium spp. can produce a large amount of pullulan, but the biosynthesis and regulation of it have not been resolved. Recently, the molecular mechanisms of pullulan biosynthesis and regulation have been elucidated through genome-wide mutant analysis. Pullulan biosynthesis is regulated by glucose repression and signaling pathways.

Summary: This study used cost-effective substrates to produce high molecular weight pullulan, optimized the medium using response surface methodology and artificial neural network, and analyzed the physiological mechanism of changes in pullulan titer and molecular weight using different substrates. Economic analysis showed a significant decrease in cost for using soybean meal hydrolysate and corn steep liquor substrates, improving the competitiveness of pullulan in industrial applications.
