Integrin activation involves large-scale conformational transitions that regulate binding to ligands. Mutants of integrin alpha V beta 3 showed differences in mechanical responses and force sensing, with activating mutations like beta 3 S243E exhibiting the strongest effects. Computational models suggested that force-induced integrin conformational changes contribute to cellular mechanosensing.
