The impact of disease severity measures on survival in US Veterans with rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease

Importance of Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in Patients with Interstitial Lung Disease Associated with Systemic Autoimmune Disease

Natalia Mena-Vazquez et al.

Summary: This study described the frequency of COVID-19 and the impact of vaccination in patients with interstitial lung disease and systemic autoimmune disease (ILD-SAD), and identified factors associated with infection and severity of COVID-19. The results showed that approximately 13% of patients with ILD-SAD had SARS-CoV-2 infection, of which approximately one-third were severe cases. Most severely infected patients were not fully vaccinated.

Collinsella is associated with cumulative inflammatory burden in an established rheumatoid arthritis cohort

Patricia Ruiz-Limon et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the gut microbiota of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) according to disease activity. The results showed differences in gut microbiota between patients with moderate/high activity RA, patients with remission/low activity, and controls. The genus Collinsella, age, obesity, and physical function were found to be associated with cumulative inflammatory burden in RA.

Non-anti-TNF biologic agents are associated with slower worsening of interstitial lung disease secondary to rheumatoid arthritis

Natalia Mena-Vazquez et al.

Summary: The study found that most patients with RA-ILD receiving DMARD treatment were able to stabilize lung function and control inflammatory activity well. Non-anti-TNF DMARDs reduce the risk of worsening lung disease in 90% of patients, while RA inflammatory activity and smoking are associated with worsening.

Rheumatoid arthritis: Extra-articular manifestations and comorbidities

Fabiana Assunta Figus et al.

Summary: Synovitis is the primary manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but many extra-articular manifestations and comorbidities are likely due to the chronic, complex nature of the disease. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in RA patients, with increased risks of myocardial infarction and CV mortality. Other common causes of death in RA patients include respiratory disease and neurological issues, with evidence linking systemic inflammation to Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. In order to reduce morbidity and mortality, physicians must actively manage RA disease activity and monitor for potential risk factors and associated conditions.

The use and context of the term 'multimorbidity' in rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic literature review

Mrinalini Dey et al.

Summary: This systematic literature review aimed to analyze the terminology used to describe coexisting conditions in the rheumatoid arthritis literature, highlighting the need for a standardized definition of multimorbidity. The study found inconsistent use of the term 'multimorbidity' in the literature, suggesting a need for improved assessment and definition of multimorbidity in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Predictors of Progression and Mortality in Patients with Prevalent Rheumatoid Arthritis and Interstitial Lung Disease: A Prospective Cohort Study

Natalia Mena-Vazquez et al.

Summary: This study describes a cohort of patients with RA-ILD and identifies risk factors associated with disease progression and mortality. Most patients with RA-ILD maintained stable lung function while one-third experienced worsening or died. Identifying factors related to worsening in RA-ILD is crucial for clinical management.
