The Chinese medicine Fufang Zhenzhu Tiaozhi capsule protects against atherosclerosis by suppressing EndMT via modulating Akt1/β-catenin signaling pathway

Hongtao Diao et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the therapeutic effects of Fufang Zhenzhu Tiaozhi (FTZ) on endothelial dysfunction and endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT). The results showed that FTZ ameliorated dyslipidemia and endothelial dysfunction in atherosclerotic mice by inhibiting EndMT through the Akt1/beta-catenin pathway.

Pathophysiology of Cardiovascular Diseases: New Insights into Molecular Mechanisms of Atherosclerosis, Arterial Hypertension, and Coronary Artery Disease

Weronika Frak et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are disorders associated with the heart and circulatory system, with atherosclerosis as its underlying cause. CVDs are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, creating a significant public health concern. This review summarizes the pathophysiological implications of CVDs, focusing on coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis. Inflammatory factors and genetic risk factors have been identified in association with CVDs.

Long-Term Effect of Zhenzhu Tiaozhi Capsule (FTZ) on Hyperlipidemia: 2-Year Results from a Retrospective Study Using Electronic Medical Records

Xiaoqiang Huang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of lipid profile change in patients with hyperlipidemia over 2 years in response to specific lipid-lowering treatment (FTZ) compared to general lipid-lowering treatment. The findings suggest that FTZ showed similar long-term effectiveness in reducing LDL, TC, and TG compared to general lipid-lowering treatment. However, further prospective studies are needed to assess the impacts of FTZ on lipid profile.

Summary: This study investigated the pharmacological efficacy and mechanism of Fufang Zhenzhu Tiaozhi formula (FTZ) in the treatment of T2DM accompanied by NAFLD using network pharmacology and validation in minipigs. FTZ was found to significantly reduce serum levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL-C, and fasting blood glucose, increase HDL-C levels, improve insulin resistance, and attenuate liver damage in minipigs with T2DM and NAFLD by regulating metabolism-related pathways such as PI3K-AKT and HIF-1?.

The Mechanobiology of Endothelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition in Cardiovascular Disease

Shahrin Islam et al.

Summary: Endothelial cells are sensitive to the dynamic microenvironment in the cardiovascular system, with aberrations in biomechanical stresses potentially leading to changes in cell phenotype and function. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plays a role in cardiovascular diseases by causing cellular plasticity, affecting cell adhesion and migratory capabilities. Understanding the mechanobiology of EndMT in CVD could lead to novel diagnostic markers and therapeutic interventions.
