BRCA1 degradation in response to mitochondrial damage in breast cancer cells

Kana Miyahara et al.

Summary: In breast cancer cells, mitochondrial damage leads to upregulation of PINK1, inducing BRCA1 degradation and DNA double-strand breaks. The expression of BRCA1 is inversely correlated with PINK1/Parkin in cancerous mammary glands, and high BRCA1 expression predicts poor prognosis in breast cancer patients. These findings suggest a novel mechanism by which mitochondrial damage leads to BRCA1 degradation.

Highly accurate protein structure prediction with AlphaFold

John Jumper et al.

Summary: Proteins are essential for life, and accurate prediction of their structures is a crucial research problem. Current experimental methods are time-consuming, highlighting the need for accurate computational approaches to address the gap in structural coverage. Despite recent progress, existing methods fall short of atomic accuracy in protein structure prediction.
