Ex vivo development of the entire mouse fetal reproductive tract by using microdissection and membrane-based organ culture techniques

Shuai Jia et al.

Summary: Ex vivo explant culture is a valuable tool for studying fetal reproductive organ development. In this study, the authors successfully cultured the entire reproductive tracts from mouse embryos, allowing for the investigation of androgen signaling and Gli1(+) mesenchyme in Wolffian duct development. This organ culture method provides an alternative to in vivo studies and allows for difficult experiments to be performed.

Three-dimensional analysis of mesonephric tubules remodeling into efferent tubules in the male mouse embryo

Takuya Omotehara et al.

Summary: The study found that in male mouse embryos, efferent tubules are formed by the connection of mesonephric tubules and Wolffian duct, with branching and folding changes. After gonadal fate is determined, mesonephric tubules regress and remodel into twisting efferent tubules, connected to the rete testis.

Dhh signaling pathway regulates reconstruction of seminiferous tubule-like structure

Ming Min et al.

Summary: The study utilized the reconstruction of tubule-like structures in vitro to investigate the role and mechanisms of the Dhh signaling pathway. The results demonstrate that the Dhh pathway regulates the reconstruction of tubule-like structures by modulating the expression of Gli1, which is involved in cell polarity, proliferation, and basement membrane formation.

How the centriole builds its cilium: of mothers, daughters, and the acquisition of appendages

Dhivya Kumar et al.

Summary: Centrioles are microtubule-based structures in eukaryotic cells that play crucial roles in organizing the cell's cytoskeleton and facilitating various cellular processes. One important function of centrioles is to assemble cilia, which are involved in sperm locomotion, mucus flow in the lung, and intercellular signaling. It is suggested that understanding how centrioles are remodeled to support cilium assembly could provide insights into the molecular etiologies of ciliopathies.

Summary: This study identified four novel mutations in the DHH gene associated with different reproductive anomalies, including mutations that mildly affect fertility and those that result in gonadal dysgenesis. These mutations were not present in control samples.
