Twenty-one flavonoids were isolated and characterized from the leaves and stems of Hylotelephium sieboldii, a plant endemic to Japan. Kaempferol and quercetin glycosides were identified, including various types such as 3-O-sophorosides, 3-O-neohesperidosides, and 3-O-glucosides. The flavonoids differed between two varieties, with H. sieboldii var. sieboldii containing 3,7-O-glycosides and H. sieboldii var. ettyuense containing flavonol 3-O-diglycosides. Flavonoids were reported from Hylotelephium sieboldii for the first time in this study.
Twenty-one flavonoids were isolated from the leaves and stems of Hylotelephium sieboldii var. sieboldii and var. ettyuense (Crassulaceae) endemic to Japan. They were characterized as kaempferol and quercetin glycosides such as 3-O-sophorosides, 3-O-neohesperidosides, 3,7-di-O-rhamnosides, 3-O-neohesperidoside-7-O-rhamnosides, 3-O-glucoside-7-O-rhamnosides, 3-O-sophoroside-7-O-rhamnosides, 3-O-glucosides and 3-O-rhamnosides by UV, LC-MS, acid hydrolysis, and NMR and/or HPLC comparisons with authentic samples. Flavonoids of H. sieboldii var. sieboldii are 3,7 -O-glycosides of kaempferol and quercetin. On the other hand, those of H. sieboldii var. ettyuense were flavonol 3-O-diglycosides, together with a few 3,7-O-glyosides. Flavonol 3-O-monoglycosides were found in both varieties. Flavonoids were reported from Hylotelephium sieboldii in this survey for the first time.
