Follicle-stimulating hormone-mediated decline in miR-92a-3p expression in pubertal mice Sertoli cells is crucial for germ cell differentiation and fertility

Alka Gupta et al.

Summary: Sertoli cells are the sole target of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in the testis and their maturation during puberty is regulated by miR-92a-3p. The decline of miR-92a-3p during puberty is accompanied by elevated expressions of FSH Receptor, Claudin11, and Klf4 in Sertoli cells. Overexpression of miR-92a-3p in post-pubertal testes leads to compromised Sertoli cell function and infertility.

Who cares about oligozoospermia when we have ICSI

Sandro C. Esteve

Summary: The value of assessing subfertile males with oligozoospermia is controversial, but offering indiscriminate ICSI is not the best choice. Oligozoospermia is associated with poor male reproductive health, sperm damage, and adverse health consequences for offspring. Many testicular conditions can cause oligozoospermia, and therapeutic interventions can improve sperm quality and male health. Fertility clinics should collaborate with male infertility specialists to diagnose and treat oligozoospermia for better patient health, pregnancy prospects, and offspring well-being.

Siddhant S. Ambulkar et al.

Summary: This study determined the prevalence of hyperprolactinemia and prolactinoma among men undergoing initial fertility evaluation. The overall prevalence of prolactinoma in this cohort was 35-fold higher compared to the general male population. Men with hyperprolactinemia exhibited lower testosterone levels and poorer semen parameters.

Reliability of the sperm chromatin dispersion assay to evaluate sperm deoxyribonucleic acid damage in men with infertility

Sandro C. Esteves et al.

Summary: The study indicates a substantial intraindividual agreement of sperm chromatin dispersion (SCD) assay results in classifying men with infertility into three SDF categories: normal, intermediate, and high. The reliability of SCD assay exceeded 0.80 using two ejaculates analyzed within a 3-month interval under similar conditions.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of preoperative gonadotropins therapy on sperm retrieval rate (SRR) and ICSI outcomes in non-obstructive azoospermia patients. The results showed that preoperative gonadotropins therapy could significantly improve SRR, but had no effect on clinical outcomes and live birth rate of ICSI.

Updates in Sertoli Cell-Mediated Signaling During Spermatogenesis and Advances in Restoring Sertoli Cell Function

Victor A. Ruthig et al.

Summary: Since their discovery, Sertoli cells have fascinated researchers in the field of testis biology. They play a crucial role in regulating germ cell state through endocrine and paracrine signals. Recent advances in understanding these signals have potential implications for treating male infertility, while Sertoli cell transplantation has emerged as a promising breakthrough.

Syed Waseem Andrabi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of hCG therapy on men with hypogonadic oligozoospermia or severe oligozoospermia. The results showed that the majority of men responded positively to the treatment, with significant improvements in semen parameters after 3 months of therapy. Age and duration of therapy did not have a significant impact on the outcomes.

Differential FSH Glycosylation Modulates FSHR Oligomerization and Subsequent cAMP Signaling

Uchechukwu T. Agwuegbo et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the hypo-glycosylated FSH glycoform FSH21/18 is more bioactive than the fully-glycosylated FSH24. FSH21/18 predominates in women of reproductive prime while FSH24 is more common in peri-post-menopausal women. Differential FSH glycosylation modulates FSHR oligomerization, with high concentrations of FSH21/18 and FSH24 leading to dissociation of FSHR oligomers into monomers, and low concentrations promoting FSHR association into oligomers.
