Characterization of Input-Output Negative Imaginary Systems in a Dissipative Framework

Alexander Lanzon et al.

Summary: In this article, we define the notion of stable input-output negative imaginary (IONI) systems. This new class captures and unifies all the existing stable sub-classes of negative imaginary (NI) systems and is capable of distinguishing between the strict subclasses in the literature. We also provide linear matrix inequality (LMI) tests on the state-space matrices to check whether a system belongs to the IONI class or any of its important subclasses. Additionally, the derived results are specialized for OSNI systems. Rating: 8/10

Converse Theorems for Integral Quadratic Constraints (vol 66, pg 3695, 2021)

Sei Zhen Khong et al.

Summary: This note presents a study of the stability of linear time-invariant feedback systems. It concludes that if one subsystem in the system is an arbitrarily passive system, then the other subsystem must be output strictly passive.

On Integral Quadratic Constraints

Sei Zhen Khong

Summary: This article focuses on the robust stability analysis of feedback interconnections of nonlinear systems using integral quadratic constraints (IQCs). It aims to reconcile the hard (unconditional) and soft (conditional) IQC-based stability analysis. The article demonstrates that the hard IQC stability result can be recovered from the soft IQC theory. The hard IQC approach is closely related to dissipativity theory, while the soft IQC approach utilizes homotopies that are continuous in the gap distance measure.

Negative Imaginary Stability Result Allowing Purely Imaginary Poles in Both the Interconnected Systems

Parijat Bhowmick et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new approach for applying negative imaginary (NI) stability results to a wider range of systems. This approach no longer requires the existence of strictly negative imaginary (SNI) properties in the systems and can handle systems with purely imaginary poles. Additionally, this approach can cover existing stability results of NI systems.

Robustness analysis of the feedback interconnection of discrete-time negative imaginary systems via integral quadratic constraints

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the stability of the feedback interconnection of discrete-time negative imaginary (D-NI) systems through integral quadratic constraints (IQC). Necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of the feedback interconnection of D-NI systems without poles and strictly negative imaginary (D-SNI) systems are developed, along with the study of the stability of the feedback interconnection of D-NI systems with poles at 1 and D-SNI systems. Additionally, a sufficient condition for the internal stability of the interconnection of unstable D-NI systems is obtained with examples illustrating broader results than previous studies.

On the dissipativity property of negative imaginary systems

Mohamed A. Mabrok et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new concept of negative imaginary systems and proposes a new definition for extending nonlinear negative imaginary systems. Two different quadratic dynamic supply rates are introduced to broaden the applicability of the dissipativity concept. The new definition allows for a wider range of analysis on negative imaginary systems, enabling consideration of a greater variety of dynamical systems.

Converse Theorems for Integral Quadratic Constraints

Sei Zhen Khong et al.

Summary: The collection of converse theorems establishes connections between stability of linear time-invariant systems interconnected with systems satisfying integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) and the complementary IQC. These theorems are specialized to derive multiple versions of converse passivity results, covering various notions of passivity surplus and deficit. Additionally, frequency-weighted small-gain and passivity theorems are also established in this context.

Negative Imaginary Theory for a Class of Linear Time-Varying Systems

Suleiman Kurawa et al.

Summary: This letter introduces the concept of linear time-varying negative imaginary systems and their characteristics, describing and analyzing these systems through a series of conditions and theoretical derivation equations. Ultimately, sufficient conditions are derived to ensure the global stability of the system and stability of the equilibrium point.
