Galactic Chemical Evolution of Radioactive Isotopes with an s-process Contribution

Thomas C. L. Trueman et al.

Summary: Analysis of inclusions in primitive meteorites reveals the existence of short-lived radionuclides with half-lives of 0.1-100 Myr in the early solar system. This study investigates the origin of these radionuclides and their formation in the early solar system using galactic chemical evolution modeling.

Exploring the Milky Way Circumgalactic Medium in a Cosmological Context with a Semianalytic Model

Yakov Faerman et al.

Summary: In this study, we combine the Santa Cruz semianalytic model (SAM) with the circumgalactic medium (CGM) model to explore the properties of the CGM in L* galaxies. We find a correlation between the CGM mass and mean metallicity in a sample of galaxies with halo masses similar to the Milky Way. We investigate the behavior of different parameters such as gas pressure, column densities, and cooling rates with the gas distribution and total mass.

APOGEE Chemical Abundance Patterns of the Massive Milky Way Satellites

Sten Hasselquist et al.

Summary: The APOGEE survey analyzed the chemical abundance patterns of red giant stars in the satellite galaxies of the Milky Way, drawing conclusions about their star formation histories. The results show that the starburst in the Magellanic Clouds had significant effects on multiple elements, with the SMC experiencing a major burst before the LMC. Additionally, the chemical patterns of Sgr and Fnx suggest secondary star formation epochs occurring earlier than those in the Magellanic Clouds.

The ALMaQUEST Survey - V. The non-universality of kpc-scale star formation relations and the factors that drive them

Sara L. Ellison et al.

Summary: By analyzing a sample of around 15000 star-forming spaxels from 28 galaxies, it was found that the galaxy-to-galaxy variation in the resolved Schmidt-Kennicutt relation, star-forming main sequence, and molecular gas main sequence is significant. The star-forming main sequence shows the largest variation, while the molecular gas main sequence shows the least.

Stellar migration and chemical enrichment in the milky way disc: a hybrid model

James W. Johnson et al.

Summary: A hybrid model of galactic chemical evolution was developed, combining multiring computation of chemical enrichment with stellar migration and vertical distribution of stellar populations. The model successfully reproduces many qualitative features of the Milky Way disc, suggesting that more dramatic evolutionary pathways may be required.

The G-dwarf distribution in star-forming galaxies: A tug of war between infall and outflow

E. Spitoni et al.

Summary: Analyzing the CMDFs of local star-forming galaxies, we find that galactic winds play a significant role in shaping the function, with low-mass systems showing a greater impact. The CMDFs of low-mass and high-mass galaxies deviate notably from a 'closed-box' model, as the evolution of these systems is influenced by outflows and infall. Additionally, in the context of galactic downsizing, low-mass galaxies are more likely to exhibit downward-concave CMDFs, indicating larger fractions of young systems and substantial deviations from equilibrium.

Summary: Electron temperature maps of the edge-on system Mrk 1486 reveal a negative minor-axis temperature gradient and the distribution of high and low metallicity regions. These findings suggest processes such as metal inflows, outflows driven by star formation, and the contribution of baryon-cycle processes to galaxy assembly in Mrk 1486.

Robert C. Kennicutt et al.

Summary: We found that the Schmidt law between starburst and nonstarburst galaxies can be fitted with a single power law with a slope of n = 1.5 +/- 0.05. However, fitting separate power laws for nonstarburst and starburst galaxies produces significantly different slopes, with a pronounced offset in the zero-point of the starburst relation towards higher SFR surface densities.
