Observational search for primordial chirality violations using galaxy angular momenta

Pavel Motloch et al.

Summary: This study examines galaxy data to search for evidence of primordial chirality violation. The results show that galaxy spins correlate equally with left and right helical components, indicating a universe without primordial chirality violation. However, maximal chiral violation cannot be ruled out based on current data.

Correlating galaxy shapes and initial conditions: An observational study

Pavel Motloch et al.

Summary: Using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the study examines the correlations between directions of galaxy angular momenta and various observables. They find a systematic effect consistent with galaxy orientation-dependent selection function, and hints of excess/deficit correlation for two observables. After correcting for redshift space distortions, the significance of these correlations decreases. No other systematic issues were found, but a thorough analysis beyond the scope of this work is needed.

An observed correlation between galaxy spins and initial conditions

Pavel Motloch et al.

Summary: This study provides direct evidence for a correlation between the directions of galaxy angular momenta and cosmic initial conditions, demonstrating the potential to use galaxy spins measurements to probe fundamental physics in the early Universe.

Self-supervised Representation Learning for Astronomical Images

Md Abul Hayat et al.

Summary: Sky surveys are crucial for generating astronomical data, and self-supervised learning is shown to be effective in extracting meaningful representations from sky survey images without the need for labels. These learned representations can be used for various scientific tasks, such as galaxy morphology classification and photometric redshift estimation, outperforming supervised methods with far fewer labels for training.
