Accurate flux calibration of GW170817: is the X-ray counterpart on the rise?

E. Troja et al.

Summary: The X-ray emission from the GW170817 gravitational wave transient is described as non-thermal afterglow radiation produced by a structured relativistic jet viewed off-axis, and continues to be detected 3.3 years after the merger. While there is no evidence of an increase in X-ray flux, a growing tension between observations and the jet model is confirmed, prompting the need for further observations at radio and X-ray wavelengths to break the degeneracy between models.

Evidence for X-Ray Emission in Excess to the Jet-afterglow Decay 3.5 yr after the Binary Neutron Star Merger GW 170817: A New Emission Component

A. Hajela et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the excess of X-ray emission observed more than 900 days after the GW 170817 binary neutron star merger event, which deviates from the previous models and may be caused by the mildly relativistic shock generated by the merger ejecta.

A Comprehensive Measurement of the Local Value of the Hubble Constant with 1 km s-1 Mpc-1 Uncertainty from the Hubble Space Telescope and the SH0ES Team

Adam G. Riess et al.

Summary: This study reports observations of Cepheid variables in the host galaxies of 42 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to calibrate the Hubble constant (H (0)). The observations were collected over four decades and significantly improved the precision of the direct determination of H (0). The study presented multiple verifications of Cepheid photometry and explored different analysis variants to assess the sensitivity of H (0) determination. The baseline result for H (0) was found to be 73.04 +/- 1.04 km s(-1) Mpc(-1).

On the diversity of magnetar-driven kilonovae

Nikhil Sarin et al.

Summary: This study explores the diversity of magnetar-driven kilonovae and kilonova afterglows by examining the role of magnetic field strength. The results show that kilonovae with a magnetar central engine are significantly brighter than those without an engine, even in the parameter space dominated by gravitational-wave emission. However, systems with minimal gravitational-wave emission may produce kilonovae that are difficult to distinguish from ordinary ones unless early epoch observations are available.

Maria Giovanna Dainotti et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the evolution of the Hubble constant and presents conclusions based on the analysis of supernovae and acoustic oscillation data. The study finds a decreasing trend with eta in the sample, which may be related to astrophysical biases or modified gravity theories. This research is important for understanding the evolution of the Hubble constant.

Velocity correction for Hubble constant measurements from standard sirens

Suvodip Mukherjee et al.

Summary: Gravitational wave sources are a useful tool for measuring luminosity distance and Hubble constant H-0, requiring a peculiar velocity correction for accurate measurements. Researchers have proposed a framework to incorporate this peculiar velocity correction, which was first applied to the GW170817 event leading to a revised H-0 value. The revised H-0 value of 68.3 (-4.5)(+4.6) km s(-1) Mpc(-1) demonstrates the capability of obtaining unbiased and accurate measurements of H-0 with the required precision.

S. Makhathini et al.

Summary: The study presents the full panchromatic afterglow light-curve data of GW170817, evaluating the impact of different data processing methods used by various groups and providing a more uniform data set. The afterglow light curve shows specific rise and decline trends, with a peak around 155 days. Parameters like electron power-law index and interstellar medium density were estimated and constrained through the analysis.

3D magnetized jet break-out from neutron-star binary merger ejecta: afterglow emission from the jet and the ejecta

Antonios Nathanail et al.

Summary: The study uses 3D simulations to model jet breakout from binary neutron-star mergers and confirms previous results from 2D simulations. In addition to describing the structure of the relativistic outflow, the non-thermal afterglow emission is calculated, observer angle is inferred, and parameter space for both thermal kilonova emission and unobserved non-thermal emission is constrained through the study.

Dynamical ejecta synchrotron emission as a possible contributor to the changing behaviour of GRB170817A afterglow

Vsevolod Nedora et al.

Summary: In the past 3 years, the fading non-thermal emission from GW170817 has been consistent with afterglow powered by synchrotron radiation produced by the interaction of structured jet with the ambient medium. Recent observations in the X-ray band show changes in temporal and spectral behavior. The new observations are compatible with non-thermal emission from the fast tail of dynamical ejecta of binary neutron star merger simulations.

Multimessenger Parameter Estimation of GW170817: From Jet Structure to the Hubble Constant

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the inclination of the merging system can be effectively constrained through electromagnetic radiation and gravitational wave parameter estimation, leading to an improved precision in the constraint of the Hubble constant. Therefore, combined multimessenger observations of short-duration gamma-ray bursts with a good understanding of jet structure can serve as powerful probes of cosmological parameters.
