Tidal perturbations and eclipse mapping in the pulsations in the hierarchical triple system U Gru

C. Johnston et al.

Summary: Researchers investigated U Gru and found that it is likely a hierarchical triple system. They proposed that the series of frequencies separated by the orbital frequency can be reproduced by eclipse mapping caused by tidal forces. The study demonstrates the influence of tidal forces on the pulsations of U Gru.

Seismic modelling of a very young SPB star - KIC 8264293

Wojciech Szewczuk et al.

Summary: In this study, we conducted a thorough seismic analysis of MC 8264293, a fast-rotating B-type pulsator observed by the Kepler satellite. By fitting the period spacing and considering the position of the star in the HR diagram, we constrained the internal structure and physical parameters of the star. We found that the star is very young and has not yet left the zero-age main sequence. The star's photometric variability is mainly due to its pulsations in high-order g modes, as well as the fluctuation in its circumstellar disc.

Asteroseismology of the dip structure in period-spacings of rapidly rotating γ Doradus stars caused by the coupling between core and envelope oscillations

Takato Tokuno et al.

Summary: Recent asteroseismic observations by the Kepler space mission have revealed the dip fine structure in the period-spacing versus period diagram of rapidly rotating gamma Doradus stars. In this paper, the physical mechanism of how the dip is formed as a result of the interaction between the gravito-inertial waves in the radiative envelope and the pure inertial waves in the convective core is presented. Analytical descriptions of wave solutions in both the radiative envelope and the convective core are provided, and it is found that the dip structure is mainly controlled by a parameter that has an inverse correlation with Brunt-Vaisala frequency at the interface.

Rossby numbers and stiffness values inferred from gravity-mode asteroseismology of rotating F- and B-type dwarfs Consequences for mixing, transport, magnetism, and convective penetration

C. Aerts et al.

Summary: This study provides asteroseismic calibrations to determine various parameters of intermediate-mass stars, including wave and convective Rossby numbers, as well as the stiffness at the interface between the convective core and radiative envelope. The researchers deduced these quantities for rotating dwarfs based on observed properties of their identified gravity and gravito-inertial modes. The findings offer insights for realistic (magneto-)hydrodynamical simulations of rotating core convection in dwarfs, guiding future modeling of transport and mixing processes in stellar interiors.

Inverse tides in pulsating binary stars

Jim Fuller

Summary: In close binary star systems, self-excited pulsating stars can experience an 'inverse' tidal process where tidal interactions with unstable pulsation modes transfer energy in the opposite direction, causing the stellar spins to move away from synchronicity and potentially increasing eccentricity and spin-orbit misalignment. This phenomenon is most likely to occur in main-sequence gravity mode pulsators with orbital periods of a few days.

The effect of the centrifugal acceleration on period spacings of gravito-inertial modes in intermediate-mass stars

J. Henneco et al.

Summary: This study examines the effect of centrifugal acceleration on g modes and evaluates its detectability in space-based photometric observations. By implementing a new theoretical framework, the centrifugal deformation of pre-computed 1D spherical stellar structure models was calculated, and the corresponding g-mode frequencies were computed assuming uniform rotation. The results show that the centrifugal acceleration modifies the effect of the Coriolis acceleration on g modes and causes changes in pulsation periods and period spacings, which are detectable in modern space photometry and can improve asteroseismic modeling of centrifugally deformed stars.

Variability of newly identified B-type stars observed by Kepler

Wojciech Szewczuk et al.

Summary: Recent re-determination of stellar atmospheric parameters during the Kepler mission has led to the discovery of more Kepler B-type stars. These stars exhibit pulsational variability, with high-order g modes being dominant and some low-order p/g modes also present. Patterns in the oscillation spectra associated with period spacings resulting from the asymptotic nature of the detected pulsational modes have been identified. The observed oscillation characteristics have been tentatively compared to predictions from linear non-adiabatic computations of stellar pulsations, with the effects of rotation on frequency values and mode instability considered for high-order g modes using the traditional approximation.

May G. Pedersen et al.

Summary: Observations of 26 rotating stars with masses between 3 and 10 solar masses reveal a wide range of internal mixing levels, with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles showing the best asteroseismic performance. This study provides observational guidance for three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of transport processes in the deep interiors of stars, based on gravity modes probing the stars' deep interiors near the convective core. The internal mixing levels in the analyzed stars are unexpectedly varied and are best reproduced with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles.
