Active region chromospheric magnetic fields Observational inference versus magnetohydrostatic modelling

G. J. M. Vissers et al.

Summary: This study compares the similarity between the chromospheric magnetic field inferred from observations and the field obtained from a magnetohydrostatic extrapolation based on a high-resolution photospheric magnetogram. The results show that the extrapolated field underestimates the amount of structure and the strength of the transverse field.

TIC: A Stokes Inversion Code for Scattering Polarization with Partial Frequency Redistribution and Arbitrary Magnetic Fields

H. Li et al.

Summary: The Tenerife Inversion Code (TIC) is developed to infer the magnetic and plasma properties of the solar chromosphere and transition region through full Stokes inversion. The code considers multiple physical mechanisms, such as atomic polarization and partial redistribution, to properly model the tenuous and highly dynamic plasmas of the chromosphere and transition region. Initial results of atmospheric and magnetic inversions are presented, and future developments for the project are discussed.

Combining magneto-hydrostatic constraints with Stokes profiles inversions: II. Application to Hinode/SP observations

J. M. Borrero et al.

Summary: In this study, a new inversion code is developed to reliably infer the physical parameters in the (x, y, z) domain by combining an inverse solver for the radiative transfer equation with a solver for the magneto-hydrostatic equilibrium. The new code is tested with spectropolarimetric observations of sunspots recorded with the Hinode spacecraft, showing improvements in determining physical parameters and the Wilson depression of sunspots in three dimensions. This approach opens up the possibility of calculating reliable electric currents in the solar photosphere and warrants further comparisons with alternative methods.

Inference of electric currents in the solar photosphere

A. Pastor Yabar et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for inferring the three components of the electric current vector at deep atmospheric layers (photospheric layers) from spectropolarimetric observations. The method is able to accurately infer currents at low heights under certain conditions, but its accuracy significantly deteriorates above the photospheric layers.

Heating of the solar chromosphere in a sunspot light bridge by electric currents

Rohan E. Louis et al.

Summary: By studying the solar chromosphere in a sunspot light bridge, it was found that strong electric currents can lead to temperature excess and thermal enhancements in the chromosphere. The thermal effects are primarily concentrated in the height range of 0.4-0.7 Mm above the light bridge.
