The On-orbit Performance of the Colorado Ultraviolet Transit Experiment Mission

Arika Egan et al.

Summary: This paper presents the on-orbit performance of the Colorado Ultraviolet Transit Experiment (CUTE) which is a 6U CubeSat conducting near-ultraviolet transit spectroscopy of short-period exoplanets. The results of the on-orbit calibration indicate that CUTE has an effective area of approximately 19.0-27.5 cm² and an average intrinsic resolution element of 2.9 angstrom. The paper also describes the measurement of the science instrument performance parameters as well as the thermal and pointing characteristics of the observatory.

The Final Season Reimagined: 30 Tidal Disruption Events from the ZTF-I Survey

Erica Hammerstein et al.

Summary: Tidal disruption events (TDEs) provide a unique opportunity to study dormant black holes, however, there are still unanswered questions regarding the nature of the observed optical, UV, and X-ray emission. In this study, we present a sample of 30 spectroscopically classified TDEs and investigate correlations between light-curve properties. We introduce a new spectroscopic class of TDEs, TDE-featureless, which show distinct characteristics in their optical spectra.

Mass Loss by Atmospheric Escape from Extremely Close-in Planets

Tommi T. Koskinen et al.

Summary: This study investigates atmospheric escape from close-in exoplanets with the highest mass-loss rates. It locates the transition point from stellar-driven escape to rapid Roche lobe overflow and presents numerical simulations of atmospheric escape from Uranus or Neptune-like planets orbiting close to a Sun-like star. The results reveal interesting differences between hot Jupiters and sub-Jovian planets, providing insights into the properties and behaviors of these exoplanets.

Detection of Ionized Calcium in the Atmosphere of the Ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b

Emily K. Deibert et al.

Summary: New high-resolution transit spectroscopy of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b reveals absorption features of neutral sodium and a new detection of the ionized calcium triplet in its atmosphere, with line depths significantly larger than predicted by models. This suggests that the probed layers are either significantly hotter than predicted by radiative equilibrium and/or in a hydrodynamic state, shedding light on the exotic atmosphere of this ultra-hot world.

Summary: The study focused on the atmosphere of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b using high-resolution transmission spectroscopy with CARMENES. The discovery of the Ca II IRT and investigations on the potential existence of a He I evaporating envelope were presented. Despite limitations in observing signal-to-noise ratio and telluric contamination, the study provided valuable insights into the atmospheric composition of the exoplanet.

Effects of the stellar wind on the Ly α transit of close-in planets

S. Carolan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that increasing the strength of the stellar wind can reduce atmospheric escape in hot Jupiter and warm Neptune, affecting Ly alpha transits in a non-linear way. The interaction between the stellar wind and planetary atmosphere deepens with stronger wind, leading to changes in transit absorptions and potential underestimation of planetary escape rates if neglected.
