A Census of the Stellar Populations in the Sco-Cen Complex*

K. L. Luhman

Summary: Using high-precision photometry and astrometry data from Gaia, this study identifies candidate members of the stellar populations within the Sco-Cen complex and characterizes their spectral types, Li equivalent widths, and radial velocities. The analysis reveals that the populations in Sco-Cen share similar characteristic masses for their initial mass functions and have spectral type distributions peaking near M4-M5.

A Census of Stars and Disks in Corona Australis*

T. L. Esplin et al.

Summary: We conducted a census of young stellar populations near the Corona Australis molecular cloud and discovered two stellar populations: a younger one partially embedded in the cloud and an older one surrounding and extending beyond the cloud. These populations exhibit similar space velocities and no distinct kinematic populations were found in Corona Australis.

A Census of the Circumstellar Disk Populations in the Sco-Cen Complex*

K. L. Luhman

Summary: I have used mid-infrared (IR) photometry from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) to study circumstellar disks in the Sco-Cen complex. The UCL/LCC region in Sco-Cen has the highest number of disks (>500) for its age and provides the most stringent constraints on disk fractions for low-mass stars. The disk fractions in UCL/LCC are lower than those in Upper Sco and decrease with later spectral types. The data show that disk fractions for low-mass stars remain significant at an age of 20 Myr. Age differences between disk-bearing and diskless low-mass stars in Upper Sco and UCL/LCC were not found based on their positions in color-magnitude diagrams.

Zodiacal exoplanets in time (ZEIT) XII: a directly imaged planetary-mass companion to a young Taurus M dwarf star

E. Gaidos et al.

Summary: We report the discovery of a resolved substellar companion to a Taurus star-forming region member. The companion has a mass of 3-5 M-Jup and an age of 2-5 Myr. Its luminosity and H-K color are comparable to other directly detected young planets, but redder than typical L dwarfs. Additionally, we detected a comoving heavily extincted star.

Star formation near the Sun is driven by expansion of the Local Bubble

Catherine Zucker et al.

Summary: This research analyzes the three-dimensional positions, shapes, and motions of dense gas and young stars within 200 pc of the Sun. The findings suggest that most of the star-forming complexes in this vicinity are located on the surface of the Local Bubble, and their young stars show outward expansion mainly perpendicular to the bubble's surface. The study also supports the idea that the Local Bubble originated from a burst of stellar birth and death approximately 14 million years ago.

A Census of the 32 Ori Association with Gaia

K. L. Luhman

Summary: This study used high-precision photometry and astrometry to identify candidate members of the 32 Ori association and determined their membership using spectral types and UVW velocities. The spectral type distribution of the association is similar to other young clusters, and the association is expanding. The study also compared the age of the 32 Ori association with other star groups and found that it is younger than the beta Pic moving group. Additionally, disks were detected among the candidate members of the 32 Ori association.

Gaia Early Data Release 3: Photometric content and validation

M. Riello et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the photometric content in Gaia Early Data Release 3 (Gaia EDR3), describing the input data, algorithms, processing, and validation of results. Significant improvements were made in the processing, particularly in the preprocessing and calibration of blue and red photometer data. The overall quality of calibrated mean photometry in Gaia EDR3 is superior to DR2 for all bands.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

Estimating Distances from Parallaxes. V. Geometric and Photogeometric Distances to 1.47 Billion Stars in Gaia Early Data Release 3

C. A. L. Bailer-Jones et al.

Summary: Stellar distances are essential in astrophysics, and the publication of 1.47 billion stellar parallaxes from Gaia significantly contributes to this field. Despite challenges with faint or distant stars, a probabilistic approach using a three-dimensional model of the Galaxy has been developed to estimate geometric and photogeometric distances. Photogeometric estimates generally show higher accuracy and precision compared to geometric distances, especially for stars with poor parallaxes, and are provided in a publicly available catalog.

The Old Moving Groups in the Field of Taurus

Jiaming Liu et al.

Summary: In this work, a systematic search for stellar groups in the Taurus field was conducted using data from Gaia DR2 and the DBSCAN algorithm, resulting in the discovery of 22 groups, characterized by their age, distance, disk properties, and accretion activities. Kinematic relations among the old groups were investigated, revealing a kinematic relation between Group 9 and known Taurus members, while excluding any kinematic relations between Groups 10-22 and known Taurus members.

Gaia EDR3 Reveals the Substructure and Complicated Star Formation History of the Greater Taurus-Auriga Star-forming Complex

Daniel M. Krolikowski et al.

Summary: The Taurus-Auriga complex is a prototypical low-mass star-forming region with a complex star formation history, featuring clustered and distributed modes of star formation. Through in-depth study using the Gaia satellite, it is possible to confirm membership, identify substructure, and reconstruct its star formation history. The region is substructured across stellar density, with clustered groups near the clouds and sparse groups spread throughout the region, hinting at a galaxy-scale star-forming event that can only be partially understood in the Gaia era.

Ronan M. P. Kerr et al.

Summary: The study identifies different groups within young stellar associations, including some groups that have little to no presence in previous literature, revealing their substructure and star formation history. Additionally, it suggests that star formation may have originated along specific arcs, with possible propagation of star formation speed in different regions. Moreover, early bursts of star formation may occur before current active star-forming events, indicating that gas collection mechanisms can trigger multiple generations of star formation.
