Predictive value of geriatric oncology screening and geriatric assessment of older patients with cancer: A randomized clinical trial protocol (PROGNOSIS-RCT)

Ann-Kristine Weber Giger et al.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the effects of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) as an additional intervention in older patients with cancer, with recruitment starting in November 2020 and ongoing. Through a randomized controlled trial, the research will examine the impact of CGA on patients aged 70 and above, diagnosed with cancer and identified as frail.

COMPrehensive geriatric AsseSSment and multidisciplinary team intervention for hospitalised older adults (COMPASS): a protocol of pragmatic trials within a cohort

Jung-Yeon Choi et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of comprehensive geriatric assessment and multidisciplinary team intervention for hospitalized older patients with acute medical conditions. By comparing it with conventional care, the study assesses the impact on patients' ability to live at home after discharge, and conducts a cost-utility analysis.

Geriatric assessment and intervention in older vulnerable patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer: a protocol for a randomised controlled trial (GEPOC trial)

Troels G. Dolin et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of CGA on physical performance in older frail patients undergoing surgery for CRC. The ongoing trial will provide valuable knowledge on whether preoperative CGA and postoperative geriatric follow-up and intervention including an exercise program can counteract physical decline and improve quality of life in frail CRC patients undergoing surgery.

The impact of frailty Screening of Older adults with muLtidisciplinary assessment of those At Risk during emergency hospital attendance on the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of care (SOLAR): a randomised controlled trial

Aoife Leahy et al.

Summary: This study aims to examine the impact of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) on the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of care for frail older people presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Medical Assessment Unit. The research will be conducted by a specialized multidisciplinary team and outcomes will include length of stay in the ED or Acute Medical Assessment Unit and other secondary measures.

Systematic geriatric assessment for older patients with frailty in the emergency department: a randomised controlled trial

Janne Alakare et al.

Summary: This single-center, randomized controlled trial did not find evidence that systematic geriatric assessment in the emergency department reduced hospital stay for older adults with frailty during the one-year follow-up period. No significant differences were observed for any secondary outcomes. More research is needed to explore potential benefits of coordinated, continuous interventions on long-term outcomes.

Effectiveness of comprehensive geriatric assessment intervention on quality of life, caregiver burden and length of hospital stay: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

Zhongyi Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) interventions can significantly improve the quality of life for older adults and reduce caregiver burden, but do not have a significant impact on the length of hospital stay. Future research should further explore the impact of CGA interventions on quality of life and provide more support strategies for caregivers.
