Characteristics and outcomes of neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection in the UK: a prospective national cohort study using active surveillance

Summary: This study aimed to describe the incidence, characteristics, transmission, and outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in neonates who received inpatient hospital care in the UK. The findings showed that neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection was uncommon in babies admitted to hospital, with low likelihood of infection following birth to a mother with perinatal SARS-CoV-2 infection and rare possible vertical transmission. The high proportion of babies from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic groups requires further investigation.

Changes in neonatal admissions, care processes and outcomes in England and Wales during the COVID-19 pandemic: a whole population cohort study

Association of Maternal SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Pregnancy With Neonatal Outcomes

Summary: In a nationwide cohort of infants in Sweden, maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy was significantly associated with small increases in some neonatal morbidities. Summary: The study identified factors that increase the risk of symptomatic and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy. Clinicians can be reassured that the majority of women do not experience severe complications of SARS-CoV-2 in pregnancy. Cesarean birth rates and neonatal unit admission rates were increased for pregnant women with symptomatic and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2. The risks of stillbirth or neonatal death were not significantly increased.
